Garland Special Events Center to host 2007 National Collegiate Wrestling Championships and Convention Special 10-Year Anniversary Event
Dallas, Texas, March 8-10, 2007 -- The National Collegiate Wrestling Championships and Convention will attract over 20,000 wrestling fans to watch many of the best college athletes in the country. Over 130 major universities including local favorites University of Texas at Dallas, University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech, Texas State and Texas A&M will compete in the 3-day event.
A total of 352 athletes qualify to make the trip to Dallas culled from seven Conference Championships held in New York, Virginia, Florida, Colorado, Michigan, California, and Washington on Feb 24, 2007. The athletes will wrestle in 10 different weight classes. The top eight wrestlers in each class earn All-American status.
This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the Championships and the National Collegiate Wrestling Association, based in Dallas, Texas, has teamed up with various local and national organizations to make for an entertaining three days of championship wrestling and wrestling related events.
On Thursday March 8th The Sport SourceĀ® of Plano, Texas, will host a complimentary College Prep Workshop for all high school athletes and their parents interested in competing in college athletics.
On Friday March 9th at 7:30 pm The annual Red River Duals will showcase the rival match up of the Texas High School Wrestling Champions versus the Oklahoma High School Wrestling Champions.
A "Meet the Champions" autograph and photo session will also take place over the course of the three-day event with appearances by three-time World Champion, Lee Kemp; 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist, Kenny Monday; and 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist Brandon Slay.
The event will also host a youth-father/son wrestling clinic, a bronze level coaching clinic, NCWA Hall of Fame inductions, a golf tournament, a college coaches/high school wrestlers meet and greet session, and an All-American Banquet.
