Dave Schultz Memorial to be broadcast on Altitude network, Saturday, Feb. 24

A 90-minute broadcast of the Dave Schultz Memorial International Wrestling Championships will be broadcast on a taped-delayed basis on the Altitude Sports & Entertainment network.

The first airing of this broadcast will be on Saturday, February 24 at 5:00 p.m. Mountain time.

The broadcast team will include veteran play-by-play announcer Larry Nugent, with color commentary from USA Wrestling's National Teams Director Mitch Hull.

Altitude Sports & Entertainment is a regional sports network that reaches 10 states located in the Rocky Mountain region (Altitude is available in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Northern New Mexico, Northeast Nevada and Southwest South Dakota). Outside of the Altitude territory, Altitude is available via DishNetwork or DirecTV in their regional Sports Packs, however all Avalanche and Nuggets games will be blacked out. All other Altitude programming is available.

Selected matches from the gold-medal finals of the tournament will be featured on the show. The competition was originally held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Feb. 9-10.

The competition features all three Olympic styles of wrestling (men's freestyle, men's Greco-Roman, women's freestyle). A total of 24 nation's participated in the competition this year, the largest and most competitive field in the nine-year history of the tournament. More than a dozen individual World or Olympic champions entered the competition, with many other international medalists in each of the styles.

The event was first held in February 1999 when USA Wrestling, working with Nancy Schultz and the Dave Schultz Wrestling Foundation, created an international wrestling tournament in honor of the late Olympic and World Champion Dave Schultz.
