Joe Ellenberger (Omaha, Neb./University of Nebraska at Kearney) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Jan. 30-Feb. 5.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.

Ellenberger's pin over Nebraska-Omaha's Henry Wahle in the dual's final match at 157 pounds rallied the NCAA Division II No. 1 Lopers to a dramatic 18-16 win at No. 2 UNO on Feb. 3. Ellenberger pinned Wahle with one second left in the second period.

The seventh-ranked Ellenberger had jumped up 5-0 early in the bout after hitting Wahle with a twister, but Wahle fought off his back. UNK trailed 16-12 entering the final match.

It was the second time the Lopers have recorded a final-match pin to beat the Mavericks this season. Down 19-14 in the finals of the National Duals, UNK's Tervel Dlagnev recorded a pin at heavyweight to give the Lopers a 20-19 win.

Ellenberger's win came two nights after he knocked off No. 1 Jason Leavitt 5-1 to lead the Lopers to a 24-9 home win over No. 3 Central Oklahoma. Ellenberger, a Nebraska state champion for Millard South High School, scored a takedown and two-point near fall in the final 20 seconds to beat Leavitt.

Ellenberger, a junior, is 35-8 this season.
