KRASNOYARSK, RUSSIA - U.S. wrestlers Henry Cejudo (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) and Andy Hrovat (Ann Arbor, Mich./New York AC) won bronze medals at the Ivan Yarygin International Championships in the Siberian City of Krasnoyarsk.

Cejudo, a 2006 Junior World silver medalist, finished the tournament with a 3-1 record at 55 kg/121 lbs. His only loss came in the second round, when he fell 1-0, 1-0 to 2006 World silver medalist Besik Kudukhov. Cejudo and Kudukhov, among the best young wrestlers in the world, have a rivalry which has developed over the last three seasons. Kudukhov went on to win the gold medal.

Cejudo won three matches against other Russian opponents. His bronze medal match was a 1-3, 3-1, 3-1 victory.

Competing at 84 kg/185 lbs., Hrovat, a 2006 U.S. World Team member, opened the tournament with a loss, falling to Anzor Baltukayev of Russia, 0-6 0-3. In the wrestlebacks, he defeated U.S. opponent Lee Fullhart (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC), 1-1, 2-1. His bronze-medal victory was against a Russian opponent, by a 0-1 2-1 2-0 margin.

Two U.S. wrestlers placed fifth in their weight classes after losing in the bronze medal match: Tyrone Lewis (Oklahoma City, Okla./Gator WC) at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Tommy Rowlands (Columbus, Ohio/Sunkist Kids) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.

Lewis, who was No. 2 in the U.S. last year at 74 kg/163 lbs., is competing in his first major event since moving up in weight. He finished the tournament with a 3-2 record. Lewis won his first three matches against opponents from China, Russia and Uzbekistan.  His final two bouts were close losses to Georgi Ketoev of Russia, the eventual champion, and 2005 World bronze medalist Taras Danko of Ukraine in the bronze-medal match.

Rowlands won his first match by fall, then dropped his next two bouts to Russian opponents to finish fifth. His first loss was to eventual champion Alexei Shemarov of Russia, 0-1, 0-1. In the bronze medal match, Rowlands lost to Alexei Voronin of Russia, 0-1, 1-1.

Rowlands won a silver medal at the 2005 Ivan Yarygin International and a bronze medal at the 2006 Ivan Yarygin International.

The tournament is named in honor of the late Ivan Yargyin, a World and Olympic freestyle champion, Soviet National Coach and former president of the Russian Wrestling Federation. Yarygin was a native of Krasnoyarsk.

Coaching the U.S. athletes are USA Wrestling National Freestyle Coach Kevin Jackson and USA Wrestling Freestyle Resident Coach Terry Brands.

Six U.S. athletes weighed in for competition on Sunday. At this time, the names of most of the first round opponents are not available.

2006 World bronze medalist Donny Pritzlaff (Madison, Wis./New York AC) will open the tournament against a Bulgarian opponent at 74 kg/163 lbs. 2005 U.S. World Team member Mo Lawal (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) has a tough first round match against 2006 World bronze medalist Ruslan Sheikov (Belarus).
