BANDAR ABBAS, IRAN - The first set of U.S. freestyle wrestlers have weighed in and received their first round draws for the Takhti Cup.

The Associated Press reported that the U.S. team was greeted by fans at the airport and given flowers upon their arrival in the city. Photos of the U.S. team arrival have appeared in newspapers around the world.

"It has been great here," said USA Wrestling Executive Director Rich Bender. "We have been well received. We have been treated with the utmost hospitality. I met with the president of the Iranian Wrestling Federation and we discussed a longterm relationship in terms of exchanges. The athletes are ready to wrestle."

Three weight classes will be contested on Thursday: 55 kg/121 lbs., 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and 96 kg/211.5 lbs. The remaining four weight classes will be contested on Friday.

Six U.S. wrestlers weighed in and received their first opponents.

The most prominent of the opponents to face American athletes on Thursday morning is 2005 Junior World champion Amir Moradi of Iran, who battles Kyle Cerminara (Lewiston, N.Y./New York AC) in the opening bout.

Two U.S. wrestlers could face each other in the second round at 66 kg/145. lbs. if they win their opening bouts. Jared Frayer (Cambridge, Mass./Gator WC) will wrestle A. Kadkhodaee (Iran) in the first round, and Eric Larkin (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) draws A. Rabiee (Iran). If the Americans win, they will face each other in the next match.

"They weighed in and we get started tomorrow," said U.S. coach Terry Brands. "We are being treated really well. The facilities, the training mats and the competition venue are very good. I am optimistic, but it is now up to the athletes. Hopefully, they will take advantage this opportunity."
