Maryland’s Charlie Pinto named ACC Wrestler of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland's Charlie Pinto was tabbed Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week after posting a 4-0 record at the Body Bar Systems Invitational at Cornell this past weekend.

Pinto captured the 141 pound weight class collecting four wins in the tournament, two by decision, one by fall and the other by a major decision.

The junior wrestler began the tournament with his third major decision (10-2) of the year defeating Lief Giladorf of Army. In the second round, Pinto went on to defeat Joe Ciampoli of Pittsburgh, 10-5. His lone fall of the tournament came against Cornell's Keith Dickey, advancing Pinto into the championship final at 141 pounds. The Stockholm, N.J. native pinned Dickey, ranked 18th-nationally, at 4:52. In the finals, Pinto claimed the tournament title defeating teammate Alex Krom by a 5-3 decision.  Pinto improved his record on the season to a perfect 9-0 in dual meet competition.

Pinto and the Terrapins are back in action this weekend as they host No. 18 Nebraska on Saturday, November 25 at 4:00 pm.
