Over 40 coaches from 19 states participated in the 2006 Edition of the USA Wrestling Fall Coaches Seminar held in Colorado Springs, Colo., Nov. 2-5, 2006. This outstanding program continues to educate coaches in a setting that cannot be matched anywhere else. Those in attendance at this year's clinic were placed in a setting that included several National Team coaches and members of USA Wrestling's National Teams.
The goal of the Seminar is to integrate the techniques and philosophies of the National Coaching Staff into our grass-roots development system. It is an excellent opportunity for grass-root coaches to gain the same technical knowledge and expertise that is used to train our National Team athletes for World and Olympic competitions.
The three days of course work and on-the-mat sessions included seminars on Mental Skills, Nutrition and Strength Training, and on-the-mat sessions with National Developmental Coaches Dave Bennett and Ike Anderson, Freestyle Resident Coach Terry Brands, Greco-Roman Resident Coaches Anatoly Petrosyan and Momir Petkovic, Women's National Coach Terry Steiner, Women's Resident Coach Vladislav "Izzy" Izboinikov, National Greco-Roman Coach Steve Fraser and National Freestyle Coach Kevin Jackson.
"The USAW Fall Coaches Seminar is an exceptional program where the organization's grass-roots coaches are provided the opportunity to work with and learn from the National Coaching Staff," said Mark Scott, USAW Director of State Services. "This learning opportunity is unsurpassed and the real benefit is knowledge that is spread by the attendees after they leave to the many athletes they all coach."
Coaches that attended the Fall Coaches Seminar were nominated by their respective State Chairperson and received a special Coaches Seminar shirt and a DVD of the 2006 World Championships action. Coaches also received four credits towards their NCEP Silver Level Certification. The Seminar was coordinated by National Freestyle Developmental Coach Dave Bennett.
