Ohio's Brad Bauer (Hwt, Fr., Kent, Ohio) is this week's MAC Wrestler of the Week upsetting Buffalo's John Eschenfelder 7-3 in a conference dual match last Saturday. Eschenfelder, the MAC's top-rated wrestler at the heavyweight class, also entered the match as the nation's No. 12 grappler in his weight class, while Bauer was unranked among the MAC's wrestlers. Other Nominees For This Week*s Award: Buffalo's Josh States (184lb., Sr., Lockport, N.Y.) won his only match of the week, a 14-9 decision over Ohio's Mark Shrout. Kent State's Jack Hageman (174lb., Sr., Medina, Ohio) was 2-0 last week with one pin. The Bulls wrestle Cornell on Tuesday, Feb. 20 in the MAC's final dual match prior to the MAC Wrestling Championship, which runs Mar. 3-4 in Athens, Ohio. States, who has won 17 consecutive matches, is 25-3 this season and is one win shy from reaching the 100 win mark for his career. *Central Michigan claimed the MAC regular season crown with a 19-12 victory over Kent State last Sunday. The CMU win extended the Chippewas' MAC win streak to 19 straight matches. Jason Mester (141 lbs.) finished second in the MAC with 32 victories, one behind Eastern Michigan*s Mike Feeney, the nation*s third-ranked wrestler at 174 lbs., while five other Chippewa grapplers posted 20 or more victories. *Kent State has a 15-7 dual match record after going 1-1 last week, winning 28-9 at Ashland and dropping a 19-12 decision to Central Michigan. The Flashes 15 dual-meet victories are the third most in school history, one short of the 1981 and 1985 teams that won 16 matches. Junior Mark Wentz (141 lbs.) and senior Brent Thompson (125 lbs.) both picked up their 20th wins last week. *Ohio completed the regular season by winning its final five dual match contests and six of the Bobcats* last seven.
