96 kg/211.5 lbs. - Daniel Cormier, Stillwater, Okla. (Gator WC)

(about the third period against Heidari of Iran)
"He shot a single leg. Instead of possibly using our baseline defense or giving up the point, I pulled him to my body and went to my back with a minute left. I have to be smarter. I felt good. I made a bad, costly mistake. I fell to my back. He was in on a deep waist and arm. He flipped me a few times for the technical fall."

"It kills me. It is so disappointing. I am so disappointed in myself right now. Like Coach Jackson says, I have to look ahead. I can cry and be disappointed later. If he pulls me through, I have to get my mind right and be ready to wrestle."

"Going into the match, I felt I'd win. I made a costly mistake in the third period. I am better than that. In this part of my career, I can't be doing that, giving away matches. I let so many people down, myself and the coaching staff. If I wrestle to my ability, we have a chance to win the team title."

120 kg/264.5 lbs. - Tolly Thompson, Cedar Falls, Iowa (Sunkist Kids)

"There's not much to say. I wrestled hard. I just didn't score."

48 kg/105.5 lbs. - Mary Kelly, Colorado Springs, Colo. (New York AC)

"I think the thing I am most upset about is getting taken down with 20 seconds left. I should have stayed more with what I doing in the first period. I think I could have wrestled better the second match. I was not prepared enough, I guess. I don't know."

"I am disappointed. I really wanted to bring home a medal. I think if I did something else differently, I could have won."

U.S. Freestyle National Coach Kevin Jackson

"It was like 2004. We couldn't close the deal. We came in with a chance to win the title. We had two guys who did not wrestle to their ability. It is disappointing. We need guys to get it done. That will be hard for them to live with, for them to travel all across the world and not get their best match at the World Championships."

"We will be back. We will win next year. I have all the confidence in the world we will win."

U.S. Freestyle World Team Coach Lou Rosselli

"Both guys wrestled hard. They didn't create opportunities they could have. Obviously, they didn't wrestle to the best of their ability. It has been a tough day so far. We did not control our destiny. To win the tournament, we had to take control. We left in it in somebody else's hands."

"Everybody trained hard. Nobody wants to lose. Nobody expects to lose. Bad things happen and you make adjustments."

"Overall, we had some great performances. Our guys wrestled with will and desire. The USA comes to win. We want to win the team title. You don't get a lot of chances. We have only won it a couple of times. Overall, our performance was good. It has been great working with great people. We made some leaps."

U.S. Women's National Coach Terry Steiner

(about Mary Kelly)
"We started out wrestling in the positions we needed to. It was working. In the second period, we switched tactics all together. You need to keep wrestling with what works. It looked to me like we wore down as the match went. That can't happen. We have some things to learn. With 20 seconds to hold the lead, and lose; we have to win those situations."

"I am proud of her effort. You need to do a better job of staying in our areas and keeping in position. I don't think she was competing with 'big eyes.' She competed hard. You have to stay in your positions. That is where you need to be stubborn. You can't wrestle other people's matches."
