COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The final spot on the 2006 Women's World Freestyle Team will be determined in a Special Wrestle-off on Aug. 30 in the Sports Center II at the United States Olympic Training Center.

U.S. Nationals champion Clarissa Chun (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) and U.S. World Team Trials champion Mary Kelly (Mahomet, Ill./ New York Athletic Club) will meet in a best-of-3 series at 48 kg/105.5 pounds. The winner will represent the United States at the World Championships on Sept. 26-Oct. 2 in Guangzhou, China.

Chun won the U.S. Nationals in April, but was unable to wrestle at June's U.S. World Team Trials because of an injury. Chun was permitted a special wrestle-off at a later date by virtue of winning the U.S. Nationals.

The matches in the Chun-Kelly series are scheduled for 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and, if necessary, at noon on Aug. 30 in the upstairs gymnasium above the wrestling room in the Olympic Training Center.

Stephanie Murata (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) and Sara Fulp-Allen (El Granada, Calif./Menlo College) also will meet in a match to determine a true third at 48 kg/105.5 pounds for a spot on the National Team. They will meet after the first match of the Chun-Kelly series.

Chun was a 2000 U.S. World Team member while Kelly is looking to make her first World Team.

Special Wrestle-offs have occurred occasionally in the past in all three international styles of wrestling - men's and women's freestyle, and Greco Roman - when a U.S. Nationals champion has sustained an injury and elected to delay the championship series until after the World Team Trials event.

Spectators are invited to attend and there is no admission charge.
