FARGO, N.D. - Tyrell Fortune of Oregon won his fourth career Cadet National title with a victory at 215 pounds at the Accelerade Cadet Freestyle Nationals Championships in the Fargodome on Friday.

He was a double champion last year, winning both freestyle and Greco-Roman, and was a winner in the Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals earlier this week. 

He defeated Atticus Disney of Kansas in the championship finals, 2-0, 4-0. In the first period, Fortune scored the only points on a gut wrench turn. The key to his second period win was a three-point double leg takedown with exposure. 

It was a rematch of the Greco-Roman finals held on Monday, also won by Fortune 1-2, 4-0, 2-0.

David Taylor of Ohiowon his third career Cadet National title with a solid victory over Mark Rappo of Pennsylvania in the 98-pound finals, 3-0, 4-0. He was named Outstanding Wrestler for the Cadet freestyle tournament.

Taylor won a Cadet Nationals freestyle title last year at 91 pounds. Taylor was also Cadet National Greco-Roman champion on Monday night at 98 pounds, giving him a double title for this weekend.

Winning a double titles this weekend were Fortune and Taylor, plus 2006 Cadet National Greco-Roman champions Ryan Mango of Missouri at 84 pounds, Romero Cotton of Kansas at 171 pounds and Ryland Geiger of Oregon at 189 pounds.

Mango stopped 2005 Cadet Nationals runner-up Richy Reiheohl of Pennsylvania, 6-4, 2-0. Mango hit a high-amplitude throw from a double leg takedown in the first period to set the tone for the entire match.

Cotton defeated Hunter Collins of California in a very close three-period battle, 1-0, 0-1, 2-1. Cotton won the first period scoring a takedown from the leg clinch. Collins scored the only takedown in the second period to force the deciding third period. With Collins leading 1-0 late in the final stanza, Cotton scored two points finishing a leg attack in the closing seconds.

Geiger needed three periods to defeat a very tough Jacob Scharbrough of  Idaho, 0-6, 5-0, 6-3. In the first period, Scharbrough was able to score exposure points from the mat to secure the technical fall for the period. Geiger came back to win the second period with an explosive five-point throw.  In the deciding third period, with the match tied at 3-3 Scharbrough had the edge on criteria. However, Geiger scored a takedown and an exposure with just three seconds left in the match for a stunning victory.

Winning a Cadet Nationals freestyle title for the second straight year was Alex Meade of Pennsylvania, who defeated Jedd Moore of Ohio, 2-0, 4-0 at 145 pounds. Meade was the Cadet National champion last year at 130 pounds, representing Delaware. 

At 119 pounds, Matt McDonough of Iowa won a hard-fought three period victory over Cadet National Greco-Roman champion Nate Moore of Iowa, 4-0, 0-7, 3-2. It was a rematch of the Cadet Nationals Greco-Roman title won by Moore on Monday night, 8-0, 1-1. 

McDonough hit a headlock for three points late in the first period to take the period, 4-3. Moore came out with a passion in the second period for a quick takedown and a number of exposure moves for a technical fall. In the deciding third period, with Moore winning 2-1, McDonough scored a takedown in the final seconds to tie the score at 2-2. He won the criteria for having scored the last point of the period to capture the title.

Moore was attempting to become the third person to win the Cadet Triple Crown, which is given to any wrestler who wins the USA Wrestling Cadet National titles in folkstyle, Greco-Roman and freestyle during the same year. Moore came into the finals with national titles in folkstyle and Greco-Roman.

Pennsylvania won the Acordia Cup team standings with 79 points, with Ohio in second with 71 points. Iowa was third with 50, Kansas and New York tied in fourth place with 45 points.

There were two all-Pennsylvania finals during the championship session.

At 112 pounds, Pennsylvania's Jordan Oliver defeated teammate Josh Kindig in two straight periods, 1-0, 4-2. In the second period, Oliver fell behind 2-1 after a caution and two-point penalty, but he came back with a three-point move to win the period and the match.

At 125 pounds, Andrew Alton of Pennsylvania defeated fellow Keystone state wrestler Colin Johnston in two straight periods, 5-0, 1-0. 

Ohio had three individual champions. Along with Taylor, the other national champions from Ohio were Jaimie Clark at 91 pounds and Logan Stieber at 105 pounds.

At 91 pounds, Jamie Clark of Ohio looked sharp in a two-period victory over Sharky Slyter of Kansas, 1-0, 7-0. Clark was able to open up his offense in a dominant second period. 

At 105 pounds, Logan Stieber of Ohio was dominant in a 7-0, 7-0 technical fall over Chris Villalonga of New Jersey. Stieber was very effective with his leg attack takedowns and was able to turn Villalonga on the mat for exposure points.

In a wide-open battle at 130 pounds, Joshua Wiseman of Minnesota defeated Kendrick Sanders of Florida, 8-3, 7-2. Wiseman fell behind in the first period, but captured the period with a pair of three-point moves. Again, in the second period, Wiseman used two three-point throws to end the period for the instant victory.

It took three period to determine the winner at 135 pounds, when C.J. Napier of Kansas stopped Eric Jones of Washington, 2-0, 0-1, 5-0. Napier hit a three-point throw in the third period, the key move to his victory.

In another three-period war, Don Vinson of New York edged Seth Easter of West Virginia, 2-1, 0-6, 1-1 at 140 pounds. Vinson won the first period, but Easter came back with three counter tilts to win the second period by technical fall. In the final period, Easter led 1-0, but Vinson scored a takedown with 30 seconds left to tie the bout at 1-1 and win on the criteria of last point scored.

At 152 pounds, Joey Sheridan of Oklahoma opened up his offense on the mat, and was able to turn and pin Eric Cubberly of Ohio in 1:55 of the first period. 

Bryan Bourne of New York was in control throughout the bout, defeating Corey Peltier of Rhode Island in the 160-pound finals, 4-0, 5-0.

At 275 pounds, it took three periods before Stephen Andrus of Kansas defeated Bubba Owens of Oregon, 1-0, 1-2, 1-0.  Andrus won the first period, but Owens came back to capture the second. In the deciding third period, there was no scoring until Andrus forced Owens out of bounds for the only point of the period and the victory.

Travis Rutt of Minnesota, who was eligible to compete for the Cadet Triple Crown, withdrew Friday morning from the 152-pound division with an injury default, and placed sixth. Rutt won the USA Wrestling Cadet national titles in folkstyle and Greco-Roman, and was undefeated through two days of the freestyle tournament before pulling out. He injured his hand in his final bout against Zach Mastro of Florida on Thursday, and was unable to continue today.
