OKLAHOMA CITY - The nation's best high school wrestlers will compete in the USA Junior National Duals from June 27-July 2 at Oklahoma City University's Abe Lemons Arena.

The national Greco-Roman and Olympic freestyle dual titles will be decided from among 55 teams representing 27 states. Minnesota is the defending Greco-Roman champion, and Iowa was the 2005 freestyle champ.

Oklahoma has won nine freestyle titles and finished second three times. Oklahoma finished fifth last year.

Several wrestlers who will be on NCAA, NCAA Division II, NAIA and NJCAA teams next year will be at the event.

"Some of the matches you'll see at this tournament will be repeated in college at the national championships," tournament director Archie Randall said.

The Oklahoma team features three University of Oklahoma recruits. Gregg Cannon of Tulsa Cascia Hall, Nathan Fernandez of Lawton MacArthur and Jeff James of El Reno all are on the freestyle squad.

OCU will have seven signees in the dual tournament. Future Stars include Trevor Adkisson from Del City, Ronnie Hood of McLoud, Corey Johnson from Oologah, Jason Madison from Western Heights and Dakota Shadowen from Cushing. Jason Logan and Jacob Valdez will be on the Texas squad. OCU will field its first team in nearly 70 years this fall under Randall's guidance. 

Matt Torrence of Tulsa East Central will go to Air Force, and Joe Hulsey from Coweta is signed with Missouri Valley.

Tickets will be $10 a day, $5 for half a day. The Greco-Roman championship dual will be Thursday, June 29 at 8 p.m. The tournament concludes with the freestyle championship dual on Sunday, July 2 at 3 p.m.

Oklahoma will have two freestyle teams and one Greco-Roman team. Coaches for the first freestyle team will be Johnnie Cook from Locust Grove and Corey Clayton from Tulsa Union. Bobby Cook from Locust Grove and Joel Flaggert, a wrestler at the University of Oklahoma, will coach the second freestyle team.

Jody Marple from Midwest City and Joe Schneider from Yukon will be coaches for the Greco-Roman team.

Enid hosted the event the past five years. The national duals were held at Abe Lemons Arena in 2000.
