UPDATED: Three U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers eliminated on first day of World University Championships in Mongolia

All three U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers competing on the first day of competition at the World University Championships in Ulan Bator, Mongolia were defeated and eliminated from medal contention on Thursday, June 15.
The U.S. wrestlers in competition on Thursday were Jeremiah Davis (El Cajon, Calif./USOEC/Sunkist Kids) at 60 kg/132 lbs., Jacob Fisher (Platte City, Mo./USOEC) at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Robert Smith (San Ramon, Calif./New York AC) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.
Davis was defeated by Tufenk Ugur of Turkey, 1-0, 6-0. Ugur eventually won a bronze medal. However, when Ugur did not qualify for the gold-medal match, Davis was not eligible for the wrestleback rounds.
Davis was a 2006 U.S. Nationals champion, and placed second at the U.S. World Team Trials. Davis was second at the 2006 University Nationals.
Fisher was defeated 3-0, 7-2 by eventual champion Tufek Seref of Turkey. After Seref qualified for the finals, Fisher was entered in the wrestleback rounds. He dropped his next match to

Smith was pinned in his first match by Berov Shalkybekov of Kazakhstan by a headlock in the first period. When Shalkybekov was defeated in the next round, Smith was not eligible for the wrestleback rounds.
Smith was a 2006 University Nationals champion, which qualified him for the World University Championships.
Fisher placed seventh and Davis placed eighth in the final standings.
There will be four Greco-Roman weight classes contested on Friday. Representing the United States will be Spenser Mango (Flourissant, Mo./USOEC/Gator WC) at 55 kg/121 lbs., Jacob Curby (LaGrange, Ill./USOEC/Gator WC) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Chas Betts (St. Michael, Minn. (USOEC/Minnesota Storm) at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Jake Marquardt ( Marquette, Mich./USOEC) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.
All seven of the U.S. Greco-Roman competitors at the World University Championships competed with the U.S. Olympic Education Center program at Northern Michigan Univ. this past season.
