John Graham of Poquoson, Va. has been elected to receive the prestigious Order of Merit from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. The Order of Merit is presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of wrestling, other than success as an athlete or coach. The winner is selected by a vote of the Distinguished Members of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.    Despite never competing as a wrestler, John Graham has become one of the sport's most avid leaders.    In 1978, Graham helped organize the Peninsula Wrestling Association and developed the Virginia Duals, one of the sport's most storied tournaments, one year later. This event has set the national standard for how to conduct a major dual meet tournament.    Graham organized and was a three-time director for college wrestling's national team championship, the Cliff Keen National Duals.    From 1995-2000, Graham was a member of the National Wresting Hall of Fame's Board of Governors and served as the Vice Chairman of the Hall's capital campaign to raise funds for the expansion of the museum.    Seven times, Graham has served as the Team Leader for the U.S. Freestyle Team, including the 1988 and 1996 Olympic Games. He has also held the same capacity for four world championships and the Pan American Games.    Currently, Graham is involved in committee assignments supporting USA Wrestling, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Peninsula Wrestling Association in carrying out their missions.
