Hall and Reader become double champions at Western Junior Regional Freestyle Championships

Adam Hall of Idaho and Jonathan Reader of Michigan became double champions at the Western Junior Regionals, after winning titles in freestyle and Greco-Roman this week.  

In the finals match, Hall defeated Kyle Deberry of Arizona at 152 pounds, 0-1, 2-0, 3-0.  Reader beat Mike Benefiel of Illinois at 160 pounds, 0-6, 2-1, 6-2.

Hall was a three-time winner of the Idaho high school state title.  Last year, he won the ASICS/Vaughan Junior Nationals and was a Junior National Freestyle runner-up.  He was also named an All-American twice at the Cadet Nationals. 

Reader is a three-time Michigan state high school champions.  Reader was a double champion at the 2005 FILA Cadet Nationals, winning in both freestyle and Greco-Roman.  This year, he took second at the NHSCA High School Senior Nationals.  He has a career record of 171-6.

Hall and Reader were also two champions at the Western Junior Freestyle Regionals who received the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Regional Award before the finals matches.  

Tony Ramos of Illinois was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.  Ramos defeated the 2005 Junior Freestyle champion Borislav Novachkov of California at 112 pounds, 1-0, 0-4, 1-0.  

Ramos was also a three-time state champion freestyle champion and a four-time Greco-Roman state champion.  He was also a four-time champion at the Northern Plains Regionals.

No 2005 Western Junior Regional freestyle champions won gold at the competition this year.

Two 2005 Junior Regional bronze medalists returned this year to take home gold.  

Michael Mangrum of Washington moved up a weight class this year to win the gold at 125 pounds  Mangrum pinned Fil Novachkov of California 59 seconds into the match.  Luke Ashmore of Texas defeated Jacob Deitchler of Minnesota to win the regional title at 140 lbs, 5-0, 7-2.

Dom Bradley of Missouri, the 2005 Western Junior Greco-Roman bronze medalist, defeated John Hiles of Ohio at 275 pounds.  Bradley won the gold medal match without allowing his opponent to score a point on him, 6-0, 6-0.

Danny Zilverberg of Minnesota won the 98-pound title, defeating Western Junior Greco-Roman champion Alex Kostenborder of Oregon, 3-0, 3-1.

At 119 pounds, Cadet National champion Nikko Triggas of California beat Shay Warren of Utah, 5-0, 3-1.  Triggas won the silver medal at the Western Junior Regional Greco-Roman Championship.

Other champions are Justin Forrest of Missouri (105), Corey Jantzen of New York (130), Brian Spangler of Illinois (135), Trevor Hall of Washington (145), Kirk Smith of Idaho (171), Deron Winn of Missouri (189), and Robert Holbrook of Arizona (215).
