The men's Greco-Roman Qualification Tournament for the U.S. National Championships were held on Friday, April 14 in two weight classes.

Eight wrestlers in each weight division, 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and 74 kg/163 lbs., were able to advance into Saturday's U.S. National Championships. 

The athletes qualified by reaching the semifinals of the championship bracket, or the semifinals of the consolation bracket in their weight class. The tournament ended when there were eight wrestlers left in the competition. No placement matches were held.

The qualifiers will join eight other wrestlers who were selected to compete in the U.S. Nationals by a Seeding and Separation Committee and begin their competition on Saturday. 

Of the 16 qualifiers determined on Friday, four are members of the U.S. Olympic Education Center (USOEC) program at the Univ. of Northern Michigan: Mervin Ford and Tim Bleau at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and Kevin Lozano and Brian Piasecki at 74 kg/163 lbs.

Among the qualifiers at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. were Cam Jones (Salt Lake City, Utah/TAC) and Darnell Lollis (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army), both who have had success at the U.S. Nationals in the past. Jones placed third at the 2001 U.S. Nationals. Lollis was fourth in the 1999 U.S. Nationals.

The other five weight classes in Greco-Roman had less than 20 entries and did not require a Qualification Tournament. These divisions are 55 kg/121 lbs., 60 kg/132 lbs., 84 kg/185 lbs., 96 kg/211.5 lbs. and 120 kg/264.5 lbs. All of the athletes in these weight classes will wrestle on Saturday, when the tournament will be contested in one day.
