Zach Thompson (ISU), 4-0   This is a rematch of last year's national finals, in which Vering won in double over-time.    Vering controlled a front headlock at 1:30 and nearly scored off of a knee pick out of bounds.  Coach Douglas asked the referee to ensure the front headlock was legal at a table conference.    Scoreless after the first period.      Thompson chose bottom.  Vering returned Thompson to the mat with a crab-ride sit.  Both wrestlers went out of bounds at 1:26.  Vering nearly scored on a far-side cradle.  Vering worked both legs in and worked a power-half.  A stalemate was called with :43 seconds.  Thompson stood up both wrestlers went out of bounds with :21 seconds left.  Vering worked legs in and rode out Thompson for the entire two minute second period.      Vering chose bottom and was released by Thompson for a 1-0 lead.  Vering scored slide by takedown to his right side with :31 seconds left and rode Thompson out for a 4-0 win with riding time.  A loud and raucous crowd in town for the state tournament responded to the win for the native of Howells, Nebraska.        285 - Mark Knauer (ISU) dec. Pat Miron (NU), 8-3  Knauer scored a takedown with 1:35.  Miron escaped at 1:00.  Knauer led 2-1.  Kanuer scored on a single leg with :45 seconds left.  Miron escapes with :27 seconds left in the first.  Knauer leads 4-2 at the end of the first.      Miron chose bottom.  Knauer gained a minute of riding time at 1:24 left in the second.  Miron was warned for stalling with 1:20 left in the period.  Knauer worked a 2 on 1 tilt but only got a one-count with :40 seconds left.  Miron was cautioned for a false start.  Knauer spiraled an arm out.  Miron nearly escaped but was forced out of bounds with :06 seconds left.  Knauer was cautioned for a false start.  Knauer rode Miron out and had 2:23 of riding time.      Knauer chose bottom to start the third.  Knauer escaped at 1:33 left in the third to lead 5-2.  Knauer worked a pinch headlock to the left side and scored a takedown at :43 seconds left. Sirish Neal (ISU), 25-10    Malia scores quick takedowns at 2:55, 1:55, 1:41, 1:26, 1:10, :44 seconds.   At the end of the first Malia leads 12-5.      Moore chose bottom escaped and was takendown at 1:40.  Malia released and scored another takedown at 1:16.  Malia leads 16-7 with 3:15 of riding time.  Malia release Moore and scored a takedown with :26 seconds left.  Moore escaped and Malia scored a takedown with :04 seconds left.      Malia leads 20-9.    Malia chose neutral and scored a takedown with 1:55 left.  22-9.    Moore called for stalling, Malia gained a point.  23-9.  Moore escapes and Malia scores a takedown with :51 seconds left.    Malia scores a technical fall with a 25-10 victory.        133 - Todd Beckerman (NU) dec. Matt Azevedo (ISU), 8-2  Beckerman controls a front headlock out of bounds at 1:33 left in the first.  Beckerman scored a go-behind takedown with 1:16 left as Azevedo worked hard to avoid the takedown by rushing out of bounds.  Beckerman works a right side chicken wing tilt for a two point nearfall.  Beckerman leads 4-0.  Beckerman has 1:16 of riding time after the first period and leads 4-0.      Azevedo chose bottom to start the second period.  Beckerman continued to work a right side arm bar.  Azevedo escaped at 1:25.  Beckerman leads 4-1.  Azevedo nearly hit an ankle pick with :05 seconds left.      Beckerman took injury time to start the third period.  Beckerman chose bottom and led 4-1 with 1:51 in riding time.  Beckerman stood up and was returned hard at 1:31 left.  Beckerman was warned for stalling with 1:17 left. The first two minutes was very defensive with hard hand fighting but no clear shots.  Spaulding controlled an underhook to his left and got in on a swing single.  Azevedo scored a go-behind takedown on the edge with :11 seconds left.  Spaulding almost escaped.  Azevedo leads 2-0 with :11 seconds riding time.    Spaulding chose bottom to start the second period.  Azevedo broke Spaulding down and gained riding time while working a spiral to the left side.  Spaulding was unable to build up.  Spaulding was warned with :45 seconds left.  Azevedo given one point for stalling by Nebraska.  Azevedo leads 3-0 with 2:11 of riding time.      Azevedo chose top to start the third.  Spaulding hit a granby roll for a reversal at 1:25.  Azevedo was warned at 1:05.  Spaulding hit a two point tilt on the edge.  Nebraska Leads 4-3.  Spaulding worked hard for a tilt.  The match goes into overtime with Azevedo's substantial riding time.      Spaulding shoots off the whistle but is stalemated.  The crowd really starts to get into the match.  Neither wrestler is able to score a takedown.      Azevedo chooses top for the sudden victory.  Azevedo stop Spaulding's granby at the whistle for the victory.  Azevedo wins by riding out Spaulding.        149 - Billy Maldonado (ISU) dec. Travis Baker (NU), 9-7  Baker scores off a low-single with 2:22 left.  Maldonado escapes and takes Baker down at 1:25.  Baker escapes at 1:19.  Score is tied at 3-3.  Baker hits a low-single but is countered.  A stalemate is called with :18 left.  Maldonado shoots with :05 left but can't finish.
