Both U.S. Army Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling teams won the Armed Forces Championship, their fifth straight title, at the Marine Corpse Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., March 23-24.

Competing in the national tournament were also Greco-Roman and freestyle teams from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Marine Corps.

The Greco-Roman bouts took place on the first day of competition.  In the first round of the dual meet competition, the U.S. Army took a strong lead over the U.S. Navy, 21-5, winning all seven of the matches.  

The U.S. Marine Corps had a close victory over the U.S. Air Force, 17-12, and winning five of the seven matches.

Both the U.S. Army and Marine Corps repeated their victories in the second round of the tournament.  The U.S. Army defeated the U.S. Air Force, 24-4, while the U.S. Marine Corps won another five of the seven matches against the U.S. Navy, walking away with a 17-7 win.

In the third and final round of the day, the U.S. Air Force defeated the U.S., 19-11, winning four of the seven matches.  The U.S. Army then commanded a strong victory over the U.S. Marine Corps, 21-6.

By the end of the first day, the U.S. Army had taken the lead and amassed a total of 66 points, the U.S. Marine Corps had 40 points, while the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy followed with 35 and 23 points, respectively.

Freestyle wrestlers took to the mats on the second day of competition.  The first round of competition pitted the U.S. Army against the U.S. Navy again, with the Army winning all seven matches, ending the round with a score of 27-3.  The U.S. Marine Corps was able to defeat the U.S. Navy, 27-3, after winning five of seven matches.

In the second round of competition, the U.S. Army continued its dominance at the tournament after defeating the U.S. Air Force, 26-6.  The U.S. Marine Corps also managed a major win over the U.S. Navy, ending the round, 26-4.

In the final round of the day, the U.S. Army capped its winning streak with a win over the U.S. Marine Corps, 24-6, winning all but one of the matches.  The U.S. Air Force ended the tournament with a close 16-15 win over the U.S. Navy.  

The U.S. Army ended the second day of the tournament with a total of 74 points.  The U.S. Marine Corps followed with 49 points, and the U.S. Air Force and Navy tied with 32 points.

In the individual results, six of the seven gold medals went to members of the U.S. Army.  U.S. National team members that won a gold medal at the event include Eric Albarracin, Joshua Habeck, Phillip Simpson, and Jacob Clark.

A six medal majority  also went to the U.S. Army wrestlers for individual Greco-Roman results.  Members of the U.S. National team that won gold medals at the competition include Jermaine Hodge, James Johnson, Glenn Garrison, Aaron Sieracki, Phillip Johnston and Dremiel Byers.

Jared Moreland, at 55 kg/121 lbs., earned silver medals in both wrestling styles.  Jacob Clark won a gold medal in freestyle and a silver in Greco-Roman wrestling at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.

The next stop for the U.S. Army team will be the U.S. Nationals in Las Vegas, April 14-15 where they hope to have more victories.  In the last five years, the U.S. Army has brought home three titles.
