Menlo College in Atherton, California is starting a wrestling program for the 2001-02 school year. The school will sponsor both men and women's programs and will compete at the DIII or NAIA level. Keith Spataro has been named Head Coach and will be actively searching for assistants in the coming months. At some point the men and women's program will be separated and a coach will be appointed to the women's program. Menlo College is a small private college in Atherton, California between San Francisco and San Jose, in the heart of Silicon Valley. The athletic program sponsors 16 men and women's sports and has a dual affiliation with the NCAA Division III and NAIA. In addition to our strong athletic program, Menlo ranks as one of the top business specialty colleges in the country. Students can choose to major in management, mass communications, or liberal arts. Within each of these majors are special interests to include our new sports management program. Menlo College students have that rare opportunity to get an education that prepares them for today's market place and with that get it in a very personalized setting. Class size is approximately 15-20 students per class. Moreover, with Silicon Valley right at our doorstep there are many opportunities for internships and future employment with a degree from Menlo College. We are very excited about this new venture and hope that it can fulfill its promise. There are several things needed to get the program of and running and they are. 1. Although we will be fully funded in the next school year, the start up costs will be extremely high; therefore, we are asking for donations to help offset the cost of purchasing equipment (singlets, headgear, warm-ups, mats, etc.) In a time when wrestling programs are being dropped all over the country we are starting one and with that being said we want to make sure that it starts off strong and money will be a big asset. If you care to donate to the program please make your tax deductible contribution to Menlo College Wrestling and send it to Athletic Director Keith Larsen @ 1000 El Camino Real -- Atherton, California 94027. 2. We will need to put together a schedule, so any interested parties please contact Keith Spataro @ (650) 875-9232. We will primarily stay on the West coast; however, we would like to make an out of state run that would be approximately 1 week in duration. During that time we would like to have several dual meets and maybe finish with a tournament. The states that we would be most interested in visiting would be Iowa, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina, Colorado, but would be open to others if we could guarantee some competition dates. Please let me know if there is any interest. If you have any questions or inquiry about the program please contact me, Keith Spataro (KSpataro @aol.com) @ (650) 875-9232 or Athletic Director, Keith Larsen @ (650) 543-3851 or klarsen@menlo.edu.
