Johnson, Jr., Weber and Waters command the lead after 10 events in the ASICS Ultimate Challenge Series

The race for the Dominator belts will soon be over, following the conclusion of the USA Wrestling ASICS Folkstyle National Championships at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Apr. 7-9.

The 2005-06 Ultimate Challenge Series has seen some of the most talented wrestlers competing from around the country.  The Ultimate Challenge Series is an 11-event tournament that spans the country and culminated with the USA Wrestling ASICS Folkstyle National Championships in Iowa, Apr. 7-9.

After completion of the Virginia Challenge/USA Wrestle-FEST 2006, Michael Johnson, Jr. of Illinois remains in the lead of Div. I (9-10 years old) with 12,800 points.  Johnson has taken a strong lead in the Ultimate Challenge tournament, placing first in the Winter Classic, Dixie ASICS Nationals, 21st Annual Brute Bowl Classic, U.S. Junior Open Championship, Indy Nationals, Liberty ASICS Nationals, the Arnold Wrestling Challenge and the Virginia Challenge/USAW Wrestle-FEST.  Dylan Lucas of Florida holds second place with 8,400 points and Devon MarcAurele of Connecticut follows him with 7,600 points.

Hunter Weber of Wisconsin continues to lead in Div. II (11-12 years old) with 10,700 points.  Weber has been the champion in the California World Challenge, 21st Annual Brute Bowl Classic, Sunkist Kids Ultimate Challenge, and the Arnold Wrestling Challenge.  Following Weber are Jason Luster of Georgia with 9,600 points and Glenn Climmons of Georgia with 8,900 points.

There is a close race for the top spot in Div. III (13-15 years old).  Alan Waters of Missouri has taken over the lead with 10,600 points.  Waters has placed first in the Winter Classic, Dixie ASICS Nationals, U.S. Junior Open Championships, Indy Nationals and the Liberty ASICS Nationals.  Gregory Amos of Missouri and Clark Glass of Florida are tied for second place with 10,400 points.  Glass is in the position to win his third consecutive Dominator belt this year.

The ASICS Folkstyle National Championships is the last event in the series, and is double the points of the previous competitions for the top eight award winners.  At the conclusion of the event, nine Dominator belts will be presented.  The top three athletes in each of the three age divisions will receive a handsome Championship belt.  The top point scorer in the entire series will be named the Ultimate Dominator.

Those who attend the ASICS Folkstyle Nationals will have the chance to meet wrestling legend Cael Sanderson, the 2004 Olympic gold medalist and the only wrestler ever to win four NCAA Div. I titles with an undefeated career.  Sanderson will be present to meet fans and participants, sign autographs and give out awards.

The deadline for online registration for the ASICS Kids/Cadet Folkstyle National Championships is April 1.  Register today for the most important event in Kids folkstyle wrestling.
