Some little notes…

A pair of true freshman have made the championship finals: Troy Nickerson of Cornell at 125 pounds and Dustin Schlatter of Minnesota at 149 pounds…

There are two NCAA rematches from last year's finals:
- Nate Gallick of Iowa State vs. Teyon Ware of Oklahoma at 141 pounds
- Cole Konrad of Minnesota vs. Steve Mocco of Oklahoma State at 285 pounds
Both of the champions last year are seeded No. 2 (Ware and Mocco) and both of the runners-up are seeded No. 1 (Gallick and Konrad).

Mocco is competing in his fourth NCAA finals, placing second as a freshman, and winning titles as a sophomore and junior. 

Competing in their third NCAA finals are two-time champions Teyon Ware of Oklahoma at 141 pounds and Jake Rosholt of Oklahoma State at 197 pounds, along with two-time NCAA runner-up Ben Askren of Missouri at 174 pounds.

There were three rematches of the semifinals from last year, and all three of last year's winners won again this year.
-	At 125 pounds, Joe Dubuque of Indiana beat Sam Hazewinkel of Oklahoma, 2-1 this year. In 2005, the score of the match was 3-1 for Dubuque.
-	At 141, Nate Gallick of Iowa State beat Andy Simmons of Michigan State, 4-2. Last year, Gallick won 2-0
-	At 285 pounds, Cole Konrad of Minnesota beat Cain Velasquez, 2-2 in the second tiebreaker. Last year, Konrad won 6-2.

Ty Eustice of Iowa at 149 pounds becomes the second member of his family to make the NCAA finals, joining his brother Luke, a finalist at 125 pounds also for Iowa in 2002.

The weight class with the highest seeds in the finals is at 157 pounds, with No. 5 Ben Cherrington of Boise State against No. 10 Brian Stith of Arizona State…

There were two unseeded wrestlers in the semifinals and both lost, Joey Bracamonte of Oregon at 165 pounds and Chris Weidman of Hofstra at 197 pounds…

The state with the most finalists coming from their states are Pennsylvania and New Jersey with three. Chris Fleeger of Purdue, Jake Herbert of Northwestern and Phil Davis of Penn State are from Pennsylvania, while Joe Dubuque of Indiana, Matt Valenti of Penn and Steven Mocco of Oklahoma State are from New Jersey. 

The conferences with the most teams in the top 10 standings after the semifinals are:
Big 10 - 4 (2. Minnesota, 4. Iowa, 7. Penn State, 8. Michigan)
Big 12 - 2 (1. Oklahoma State, 3. Oklahoma)
EIWA - 2 (6. Cornell, 10. Lehigh)
Pac-10 - 1 (5. Arizona State)
CAA - 1 (9. Hofstra)

The top two seeds at 197 pounds met in the consolation round of 12, with the winner moving on to become an All-American and the loser not earning a placement. No. 1 Wynn Michalak of Central Michigan defeated No. 2 Kyle Cerminara of Buffalo, 7-5. Both are from the MAC Conference, and Michalak beat Cerminara in the conference finals. Michalak lost in the next match to B.J. Padden of Nebraska, and will be competing in the seventh place match.

The Citadel earned its first All-American, when Daniel Thompson broke through at 165 pounds. Thompson will be wrestling in the seventh-place match.

Ben Askren of Missouri outscored his two opponents on Friday at 174 pounds by a combined score of 40-9, scoring technical falls in both the quarterfinals and semifinals…

Oklahoma State's Coleman Scott has won six straight matches in the wrestlebacks at 125 pounds, and could run it to eight matches if he takes third place with two wins on Saturday. Scott had two pins, a technical fall and two decisions.
