Simmons started aggressively, going into a double underhook to a shot, which was countered by Nickerson with a whizzer and they went out of bounds. Simmons continued to work upperbody, forcing Nickerson out of bounds, where Nickerson was warned for stalling with about a minute left. Nickerson hit a low single, which Simmons countered and held to a stalemate. Simmons again went to the double underhooks, and the period ended with no scoring.

Ware chooses bottom position. The athletic Ware shakes free and turns to escape with 1:22 left to take a 1-0 lead. Cooperman is on the attack with a tentative Ware backing up to the edge of the mat with 15 seconds left. Period ends with Ware clinging to a 1-0 lead.

Cooperman chooses bottom position. Cooperman tries frantically to escape and finally does in the closing seconds, but by that time Ware already had amassed up a 1:21 advantage to gain a riding-time point and pull out a 2-1 victory. Ware advances to his third championship match in his four-year career at Oklahoma.

Esposito is out with 1:22 left to cut Eustice's lead to 3-2. Eustice spins behind Esposito on a sweet counter for a takedown to grab a 5-2 lead with 38 seconds left. Esposito escapes with 32 seconds left, but Eustice counters another Esposito shot for one final takedown with 17 seconds left. Eustice is up 7-3. Esposito escapes with 14 seconds left, but Eustice prevails 7-4 to reach his first national title match.

Cherrington chooses bottom. Cherrington quickly gets out for a 5-1 lead on an escape. Stith is warned for stalling with 41 seconds left as Zinck continually shoots in and stays on the offensive. Stith drops down on a superb single-leg shot and turns it into two points with just 11 seconds left for a 4-1 lead. Zinck spins out of Stith's grab to escape with two seconds left and draw within 4-2.

3rd period
Stith chooses bottom position. Zinck cuts him loose for an escape in the opening seconds of the period to give Stith a 5-2 lead. Stith is hit for stalling and Zinck gains a point with 38 seconds left to cut it to 5-3. Stith is still on the run as Zinck continues to give chase, but Zinck can draw no closer. Stith wins 5-3.

After some tieups, the first real action ends with a scramble, which almost goes to Bracamonte, but Churella comes out on top and gets the takedown with about 2:08 left to lead 2-0. Churella gest Bracamonte flat and gets the leg in, and Bracamonte is warned for stalling from the bottom with 1:15 to go. Churella triest to get a guillotine, then switches to a high half, to no avail. A stalemate is called with 20 seconds left. A Bracamonte granby leads to a scramble but Churella is able to get back on top and time runs out.

Churella takes bottom and gets to his feet for an escape and a 3-0 lead. The athletes work from the collar tie until Bracamonte gets in on a single leg shot, but can't finish. Bracamonte chooses neutral. Again, the wrestlers go to the head ties. No serious shots are taken during the middle of the period. However, the 1:52 of riding time accumulated by Churella makes it 4-3.

Hendricks chooses the bottom position. The American seniors cuts Hendricks loose to start the second period to give the OSU competitor a 3-2 edge. It stays that way after two periods as neither wrestler can seem to generate much offense.

3rd period
Abdurakmanov chooses the bottom position. He escapes right away to knot the score 3-3. Hendricks appeared to be called for fleeing the mat after a single-leg shot by Abdurakmanov with 30 seconds left. But Abdurakmanov somehow is called for stalling to give Hendricks a point and a 4-3 lead. Hendricks is warned for stalling with 15 seconds left. Hendricks hold him off to win 4-3.

An Askren double leg shot ends with a takedown with 1:38 left. Askren goes into a spiral ride, but Patrovich gets out again for a 4-2 score. Askren shoots again on a double drive it forward for a takedown with 55 seconds to go and a 6-2 lead. He locks up a cradle from the top, flattens Patrovich down, band pulls him over top of himself for three back points, with the period ending with Patrovich fighting off, and a 9-2 score.

Askren takes neutral. Askren gets a single leg shot, lifts the leg high and ends up with a takedown with 1:30 to go and an 11-2 lead. Askren works for awhile on top then lets Patrovich go with 55 seconds left and an 11-3 score. Patrovich is warned for stalling. An Askren shot is bloicked, but the reshot ends in a single leg. Officials stop the hold because of the pressure on Patrovich's knee. There is no more scoring

Askren gets behind him, but Patrovich forces a scramble, which finally ends with an Askren takedown for a 20-6 lead. Time runs out, Askren gets a 2:43 in riding time, and wins 21-6.

The rematch of the Big Ten finals, won by Herbert, starts with a slow pace in the opening minute. The unbeaten Herbert comes out on top in a scramble to take Perry down with 1:58 left. Herbert uses his size advantage to punish Perry from the top position, finishing the first period with nearly two minutes of riding time as he leads 2-0.

2nd period
Herbert chooses bottom position. Herbert escapes right away and then shoots in to overpower Perry for a takedown on a strong leg attack with 1:09 remaining. Herbert leads 5-0. Perry escapes with four seconds left to make it 5-1.

3 rd period
Perry chooses bottom position. Perry escapes with 1:54 left to cut the margin to 5-2. Herbert shoots in on a double, Perry counters and a persistent Herbert sticks with the move to emerge on top again with a takedown. Perry escapes in the closing seconds to make it 8-3. Herbert adds three-plus minutes of riding time to win 9-3.

Glen coms out for an escape, gets the leg and takes down Webster with 2:18 left and a 3-2 lead. Webster gets a quick escape to make it 3-3. Webster attacks, but a Glenn whizzer ends in stalemate. Glenn shoots in and Webster sprawls deep and another stalemate is called. Webster hits a double leg with eight secons left and leads 5-3 when time runs out.

Glenn chooses bottom. Glenn quickly escapes for a 5-4 score. Glenn shoots and gets underneath Webster enough to finish for a takedown and a 6-5 lead. He gets into a crab ride until there is a stalemate. Webster hits a quick granby, and Glenn follows just enough to hold the leg, keeping control until they get out of bounds. Webster gets out again but Glenn keeps the ankle. A scramble ensues but Glenn keeps the leg hooked with his arm. Officials give Webster an escape, making it 6-6.

3rd period
Webster chooses neutral. Glenn takes a low single shot, and the scramble continues until Webster holds the leg and Glenn is unable to finish with 56 seconds left and a stalemate. Webster gets behind Glenn for a takedown and an 8-6 lead with 45 seconds left. Glenn goes down and injury time is run almost all the way down. Webster tries to hold Glenn down and a scramble takes them out of bounds. Glenn escapes with 17 seconds left for an 8-7 lead. A final Glenn shot is stopped and Webster wins 8-7.

Kish chooses neutral since he holds a 1:18 edge in riding time. Kish is warned for stalling with 11 seconds left. Friedl chases Kish in the closing seconds, but Kish blocks him off and picks up a riding-time point to earn a gritty 3-2 victory.

2nd period
Davis chooses bottom position. Davis backs into Rinaldi and then slips around him for a reversal with 1:39 left to go up 4-1. Davis also has clinched riding time with a 2:12 advantage.

3rd period
Rinaldi chooses neutral. Davis counters another shot for a takedown with 1:05 left to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Rinaldi breaks loose for an escape with 34 seconds left and shoots in on a double near the edge for a takedown to cut it to 6-4 with 28 seconds left in the match. Rinaldi tries to turn Davis, but Davis holds his position and wins 7-4 after picking up a riding-time point.
