Mike Grey (Rockaway, N.J./Delbarton High School) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for the week of March 7-13.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.

Grey became the first wrestler ever to win four New Jersey state high school titles, when he captured the 125-pound title at the New Jersey state championships at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., March 12. Grey won the Outstanding Wrestler award for the second straight year. New Jersey is one of the few states that have only a single Class for its state meet.

He defeated Jimmy Conroy of South Plainfied, 13-7, in the championship match. He received a standing ovation from the 11,772 fans at the arena.

In the semifinals, he pinned Jake Sweezy of Delran in 1:35. In the quarterfinals, he pinned Greg Hart of Bernards in 1:06. In the preliminaries, he pinned Eric Tsang of Sayreville in 57 seconds.

Grey finished his high school career with a 157-2 record, winning state titles at 103, 112, 119 and 125 pounds in consecutive seasons. He holds the record for most wins in New Jersey history, ahead of Andrew Flanagan of Bound Brook, who set the record last year.

Grey was a Junior National champion in freestyle in 2005. Grey was fifth at the 2004 Junior Nationals in freestyle, and was a 2002 Cadet National freestyle champion. He has won USA Wrestling Junior Regional titles in the Western and Northeast regions.

Grey will compete for Lehigh Univ. next year.
