Purity Wholesale Grocers, Inc. re-signs as official sponsor of  Greco-Roman wrestling for four more years, announces USA Wrestling     USA Wrestling has re-signed Purity Wholesale Grocers, Inc. of Boca Raton, Fla., as the official sponsor of its Greco-Roman National Team, announced USA Wrestling acting Executive Director Rich Bender. USA Wrestling is the national governing body for amateur wrestling in the United States.     Purity Wholesale Grocers (PWG), which served as the Greco-Roman National Team sponsor for the 2000 year, has agreed to continue its Greco-Roman Team sponsorship for four more years, through the 2004 year in Athens, Greece.     The deal, which includes both cash and apparel, nets USA Wrestling $200,000 in value during the four-year period.     The Greco-Roman National Team is coming off perhaps its greatest performance ever, placing a strong third in the medal count and the unofficial team standings at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. The U.S. Greco-Roman effort yielded three medals, a gold (Rulon Gardner), a silver (Matt Lindland) and a bronze (Garrett Lowney).      "Greco-Roman wrestling in the United States continues to expand and improve," said Bender. "PWG's commitment for the entire four-year quadrennium cycle will make a major impact on the athletes and the entire program. With Purity Wholesale Grocers as part of the team, the focus will be on continued excellence. "     The PWG sponsorship supports the National Greco-Roman Team, which features the top three athletes in each of the eight international weight classes. These athletes receive subsistence and training funds as part of the National Team program, which allows them to concentrate and improve on their Greco-Roman performance. The athletes also work with the USA Wrestling coaching staff, which includes National Greco-Roman Coach Steve Fraser, National Greco-Roman Developmental Coach Ike Anderson and Resident Greco-Roman Coach Anatoly Petrosyan.     Wrestling is one of the most successful sports programs within the U.S. Olympic effort. Greco-Roman wrestling gold medalist Rulon Gardner was one of the most popular athletes of the entire Olympics. Gardner carried the U.S. flag in the Closing Ceremonies and was elected U.S. Olympic Committee SportsMan of the Year. "We sponsored the USA Wrestling Greco-Roman program in 2000 and the team had great success, they went a long way in 2000," PWG Chairman of the Board Jeff Levitetz said. "We are very excited to continue our sponsorship of the Greco-Roman team between now and the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. PWG is very proud of the association with USA Wrestling. All of our employees know about it, and are glad to be a part of such a great organization."     PWG and its 'training slogan' will be branded on competitive and non-competitive apparel and supplied to both 24 National Team members (three in each weight category) and the residents-in-training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
