Annoucements made week beginning Feb. 13 Schlatter named Big 10 Wrestler of the Week Dustin Schlatter of the Univ. of Minnesota was named Big 10 Wrestler of the Week. Dustin Schlatter, Minnesota, FR, 149, Massillon, Ohio/Perry Schlatter, a true freshman and the nation's top-ranked grappler at 149 pounds, improved to 32-1 with a dominating 11-2 major decision against defending NCAA Champion and two-time NCAA finalist Zack Esposito of Oklahoma State this past Sunday. Schlatter's win over the third-ranked wrestler gave Minnesota a 10-6 lead en route to a 19-16 victory against the three-time defending NCAA Champions. It was Schlatter's second win of the year over Esposito, including an 8-7 triumph at the National Duals in mid-January. Sunday's victory was Schlatter's fourth over a top-five ranked opponent in the past month. Pell named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week DALLAS - Matt Pell (Missouri) has been named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for his performance during meets from Feb. 6-13. Pell receives recognition for the first time in his career. Matt Pell (Missouri), Jr., 165 Pounds, Luxemburg, Wis. Pell earned a 6-2 decision over Iowa State's No. 9 Travis Paulson. His victory led the Tigers to a 16-15 upset of the No. 7 Cyclones. The junior opened his match with an early takedown of Paulson. The two wrestlers traded a pair of escapes in the second period, with Pell heading into the third period with a 3-1 lead. An escape by Paulson shortened the lead to one, but Pell countered a takedown attempt by Paulson as time ran out and added 1:17 of riding time to win the bout. Pell is 27-2 on the season and is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation. Shawn named Co-ACC Wrestlers of the Week GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Bobby Shaw was named this week's Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week after helping the Tar Heels to a 20-16 victory over the NC State Wolfpack. In the first bout of the meet between conference rivals North Carolina and NC State, 125-pound junior Bobby Shaw of UNC pinned NC State's Jeremy Hartrum in 6:25. The Newark, Del., native's victory gave the Tar Heels a 6-0 lead, one they would not relinquish. Shaw is now 19-15 on the season and tied for second on the team with seven pins. named MAC Wrestler of the Week Ohio's Terry Jackson (133 pounds) was named MAC Wrestler Of The Week. Wrestling Home MAC WRESTLER OF THE WEEK Terry Jackson - R-Fr. - 133 pounds - Ohio - Uhrichsville, Ohio - Claymont Jackson, the fourth ranked MAC wrestler at 133, won both of his matches over the weekend in leading the Bobcats to a 1-1 record. On Friday, he tallied a 4-2 sudden-victory decision over West Virginia's Seth Lisa, a two-time NCAA qualifier that is currently ranked third in the 133-pound division of the Eastern Wrestling League in Ohio's 18-16 win. On Sunday, Jackson improved to 12-4 in duals on the season and 3-1 in the MAC with a dominant 7-0 decision over Kent State's Drew Opfer, the third ranked grappler in the Jan. 31 version of the MAC Rankings. It is Ohio's first MAC Wrestler Of The Week honor this season. Other Nominees: Mickey Moran - So. - 165 pounds - Buffalo - Pittsburgh, Pa. - Shaler Area Moran improved to 25-7 on the season as he posted a sudden-victory overtime victory against Kent State's Jason McGee. McGee failed to take Moran down in the 7-5 match, earning his points on three escapes and a 2-point near fall. Trevor Stewart - Fr. - 165 pounds - Central Michigan - Canton, Mich. - Detroit Catholic Central Stewart improved to 8-5 overall and 2-0 in the MAC with a 9-7 decision over NIU's Johnny Galloway on Friday night. Stewart trailed 7-2 late in the second period before scoring a reversal and five-count near fall to even the score at seven entering the third period. From there, Stewart collected an escape and the riding time point for a 9-7 victory. Jermain Thompson - Jr. - 149 pounds - Eastern Michigan - Akron, Ohio - Kenmore Won his 149-pound match against Clarion University last week, defeating Derrick Smith on a technical fall, 18-2, in 4:56. Kurt Gross - So. - 157 pounds - Kent State - North Royalton, Ohio. - Padua Franciscan Gross scored an 8-5 decision over Buffalo's John Cummings and a 7-3 decision over Ohio's Jake Frerichs as Kent State picked up two MAC victories and remained unbeaten in league action. Gross has an unblemished record in the 2006 calendar year. Josh Wooton - Sr. - 141 pounds - Northern Illinois - Urbana, Ill. - Graham Wooton provided the Huskies' lone win during a loss at CMU Friday night with a 4-3 decision over the Chippewas' Brandon Carter. It was Wooton's 100th career victory. Against North Dakota State, he pinned the Bison's David Cunningham in 2:49. Patrovich and Coughlin named CAA Co-Wrestlers of the Week LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ (February 14, 2006) - Mike Patrovich of Hofstra University, and Joe Coughlin of George Mason University, have been named the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestlers of the Week, and Ryan Williams was named the CAA Rookie of the Week, for all competition February 7-13. Patrovich, a senior from Bohemia, NY (Islip), defeated the ninth ranked and 12th ranked wrestlers in the nation last week on Hofstra's road trip to the Sooner State. Currently ranked sixth in the nation at 174 pounds, Patrovich defeated Oklahoma State's Brandon Mason and defeated Oklahoma's Wes Roberts to improve to 25-3 overall, 16-2 in duals. Coughlin, a sophomore from Horsham, PA (Hatboro-Horsham), won both of his CAA duals last week, compiling a tech fall and a major decision. The fifth ranked 125 in the CAA, Coughlin won 20-1 over the fourth ranked 125 in the CAA from Old Dominion, and won a major decision against Campbell to improve to 8-1 in the CAA. Williams, a freshman from Cumberland, PA (Cumberland Valley), went 2-0 in CAA duals last week, including a pin. The fourth ranked 133 in the CAA, Williams defeated the fifth ranked wrestler in the conference from George Mason.
