Women’s matches set for USOEC Olympic Challenge in Marquette, Mich., Feb. 20

Five women's freestyle matches between athletes from the United States and the Czech Republic at the 2nd Annual Olympic Challenge - International Edition, set for the Superior Dome in Marquette, Mich., Feb. 20.

Athletes from the United States Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan Univ. in women's freestyle wrestling, men's Greco-Roman wrestling, boxing and weightlifting will compete in this showcase event. 

The lineup for the USOEC vs. Czech Republic match in women's freestyle wrestling has been set.

The competition will begin at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., where Liz Short (Lombard, Ill./USOEC) will compete against Eva Krejsova.

The next bout will be  at 59 kg/130 lbs., where Sharon Jacobson (El Cajon, Calif./USOEC/Gator WC) faces Martina Zyklova. Jacobson holds a No. 5 national ranking on Women's Team USA. Zyklova was seventh in the 2004 European Championships and sixth in the 2003 Junior World Championships

Next is a bout at 55 kg/121 lbs., where Amy Borgnini (Terre Haute, Ind./USOEC) wrestles Sarka Andrlova. Borgnini holds a No. 6 national ranking on Women's Team USA. Andrlova was ninth in the 2005 European Championships and fifth in the 2005 European Junior Championships.

At 72 kg/158.5 lbs., Randi Miller (Arlington, Texas/USOEC) will compete against Nina Sklenkova. Miller boasts a No. 4 national ranking on Women's Team USA. Sklenkova was second in the 2002 European Cadet Championships and sixth in the 2004 European Junior Championships.

The competition ends with the featured match, a battle between Mary Kelly (Mahomet, Ill./USOEC/New York AC) against Lenka Martinakova (Czech Republic). Kelly is ranked No. 2 nationally on Women's Team USA. She has won medals for the United States on the Cadet, Junior and University levels. Martinakova represented the Czech Republic in the 2003 and 2004 Cadet European Championships.

The USOEC men's Greco-Roman team will face athletes from the U.S. Army's World Class Athlete Program during the competition. The lineup will be announced when available.

The USOEC boxing team will face a team from Canada in the event. In addition, there will be a weightlifting intersquad competition as part of the tournament.

Tickets are available at the USOEC office, located in the Superior Dome, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday, and at the door the night of the event.  They are $1 for students and $3 for adults.

"All ticket revenue will be donated to the families of former USOEC wrestling athlete Toni Copeland and Northern Michigan University student Cass Huckabee, who tragically drowned in Lake Superior last fall," said USOEC Assistant Director Mike Fields.
