Miles H. Hahn, 52, of Lakewood, N.J. died Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at Jersey Shore Medical University Center, Neptune. Hahn was an active leader in wrestling in New Jersey and on the East Coast for many years.

His son Damion Hahn won two NCAA Div. I national titles for the Univ. of Minnesota, and is currently one of the nation's top ranked freestyle wrestlers on the Senior level at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.

Miles Hahn was a self employed contractor. He was born in Manhattan and grew up in Howell, N.J. and lived in Jackson before moving to Lakewood 14 years ago. He graduated from Howell High School in 1972, where he was a district wrestling champion. He attended Bethany College in Kansas. 

His wrestling leadership included starting the respected Central Jersey wrestling club, Team Hammer. He was instrumental in putting Jersey Shore wrestling on the map. He coached many state champions including his son Damion, who won three state high school titles and was nationally ranked in freestyle wrestling on the Senior level while still in high school. 

"I think he was very important to what is going on in the Shore right now," said former Brick Memorial head coach Tony Caravella in an interview with the Ocean County Observer. "He pioneered the wrestling club in the Shore. I don't think he gets enough credit when people give all these reasons as to why the Shore is good right now.

Hahn was serving on the Board of New Jersey USA Wrestling in the position of  Vice-Chair at the time of his passing. He was also involved in many other wrestling activities, and made friends and wrestling collegues across the nation. Among his other interests were motorcycles, and he founded the Jersey Knights Motorcycle Club.

Visitation will be held at Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave, on the 
corner of Third Ave, Long Branch on Friday, February 10, from 10am -12 Noon and 
1pm - 3 pm with a funeral service to begin at 2 pm. There will be no graveside service, as per his wishes.

Surviving is his wife, Betty Nieratko Hahn; a son and daughter in law, Damion and Terry Hahn of Robbinsdale, Minn.; two daughters and a son in law, Dora and Sylvester Green of Jackson, N.J.; DeAnne Hahn of Lakewood, N.J.; Three brothers, Larry K. Hahn of Belmar; Stephen Hahn of Florida; Richard Hahn of Arizona; and his beloved granddaughter, Jayla Marie Green Hahn. His greatest joy came from his family.
