INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Wrestling Rules Committee reprimanded East Stroudsburg University for violations relating to the NCAA Weight Management Program.
Specifically, the institution's head coach admitted to altering initial certification forms after the deadline for online certification, which put eight student-athletes at risk for improper weight loss.
Because of these actions, the committee decided to issue the following penalties:
1) A public reprimand of the institution;
2) Require that the head coach disassociate for three weeks from all team activities; and
3) A $200 fine to the institution.
"First and foremost, the committee commends East Stroudsburg's administration for being completely forthright as demonstrated by their prompt and thorough investigation of this situation and swift action," said Col. William Walker, chair of the Wrestling Committee and Deputy Director of Athletics at the United States Air Force Academy. "We have investigated violations in past years and penalized institutions accordingly. The committee felt this rose to a level that warranted a public reprimand, which underscores the severity of the violation."
