2006 Men’s Freestyle U.S. National Championships and Qualification Tournament Event Procedures

* In line with the new competition procedures established for the 2006 Freestyle Senior National Championships, eight (8) athletes will receive automatic qualification to the U.S. National Championships to be held Saturday, April 15th. These athletes will be determined by a selection and seeding committee as established by the Federation of Clubs.
Athletes not receiving automatic qualification must compete in a "Qualification Tournament" to be held on Friday, April 14th. From this "Qualification Tournament," eight (8) athletes will advance to the U.S. National Championships and paired according to the procedures as listed below to determine the 2006 Men's Freestyle National Champion.
In weight categories with nineteen (19) or less athletes registered, all participants earn automatic advancement to the U.S. National Championships, with no "Qualification Tournament" needed for advancement.
* Procedures
* All athletes must register online at www.lvsports.org by the registration deadline on Tuesday, April 11th at 9:00 am (Pacific Standard Time)
* Determination of top eight (8) athletes receiving automatic qualification to the U.S. National Championships
* The selection and seeding committee will be determined by the Federation of Clubs.
* Selection and seeding committee will meet via conference call upon the close of registration on Tuesday, April 11th.
* Current National Team athletes earn automatic qualification in the top eight (8) if registered at the same weight and style they hold National Team status.
* Top place finisher from the 2006 Dave Schultz Memorial International (DSMI) not already qualified will also earn automatic qualification in the top eight (8) --- athlete must have placed in top four (4) at the DSMI.
* The eight (8) athletes that receive automatic qualification to the U.S. National Championships will be posted at www.lvsports.org and www.TheMat.com by 9:00 pm (Pacific Standard Time) on Tuesday, April 11th.
* The "Qualification Tournament" (Friday, April 14th)
* All athletes NOT receiving automatic advancement to the U.S. National Championships (as listed at www.lvsports.org and/or www.TheMat.com) MUST compete in the "Qualification Tournament" on Friday, April 14th.
* Athletes competing in the "Qualification Tournament" will be allowed to determine the weight category they will be competing in at the Thursday, April 13th weigh-in at 3:00 pm.
* These athletes weigh-in at SCRATCH WEIGHT on Thursday to compete in the "Qualification Tournament' on Friday.
* The "Qualification Tournament" will be line bracket, double-elimination.
* Competition will continue until semi-finalists have been determined in both the championship and consolation brackets. Competition will end once these eight (8) individuals have been determined.
* These eight (8) individuals will advance to the U.S. National Championships and paired with the top eight (8) individuals that were selected for automatic qualification.
* Weigh-ins on Friday, April 14th for the U.S. National Championships
* The top eight (8) freestyle athletes that earned automatic qualification to the U.S. National Championships will weigh in at scratch weight from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm on Friday, April 14th.
* Freestyle athletes that qualified through the "Qualification Tournament"
1. WILL receive a one (1) kilogram weight allowance;
2. CANNOT weigh-in prior to the completion of his weight category;
3. CAN weigh in immediately after the completion of his weight category IF 3:30 pm or later;
4. MUST weigh in within two (2) hours after the completion of his weight category.
5. Any weight class that is completed prior to 2:00 pm will weigh in from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
* No athlete advancing to the U.S. National Championships tournament will be allowed to change weight categories at the Friday, April 14th weigh-in.
* The top eight (8) athletes that received automatic qualification to the U.S. National Championships must make their registered weight class. Failure to make this weight will result in disqualification from the tournament.
* Athletes that qualified for the U.S. National Championships through the "Qualification Tournament" must make the weight they wrestled in on Friday (with a one (1) kilogram weight allowance). Failure to make this weight will result in disqualification from the tournament.
* The U.S. National Championships (Saturday, April 15th )
* The U.S. National Championships will be line bracket, double-elimination; wrestle back to 7th place --- all weight classes completed in one day.
* The tournament will include the eight (8) automatic qualifiers as well as the eight (8) athletes that qualified through the Friday "Qualification Tournament" OR all athletes for weight categories with nineteen (19) or less athletes registered.
* No additional athletes will be brought out of the "Qualification Tournament" if any of the eight (8) athletes selected by the committee does not participate.
* The selection and seeding committee, as established by the Federation of Clubs, will seed four (4) to eight (8) individuals in each weight category.
* The seeded athletes will be separated and placed into the appropriate brackets.
* All other athletes will be randomly drawn into the remaining available slots. If there are any byes, they will be placed evenly and randomly in the brackets.
