The ninth week of competition in the Iranian Professional Wrestling League has determined the teams that will advance to the league semifinals.
Based upon results this past week, the two teams from Pool A that will advance will be Joybar Loleh (Mazandaran) and Naft (Tehran). Both teams have 16 team points, with Joybar holding the No. 1 spot after this week due to total team points scored.
In Pool B, Pas (Tehran) and Payam Ertebatat (Mazandaran) will also advance to the semifinals. Both teams have 12 team points, and Payam Ertebatat holds the No. 1 position with the most total team points. Pas did not compete during the ninth week and added no team points this week.
There is only one more week of dual meet competition in the league. The semifinal pairings are not yet determined, and will be based upon the final placement of these teams in their pool standings after next week's action.
There were only four dual meets this week, rather than the normal five matches. The team called Rah Ahan (Khorasan) withdrew from the league and did not participate in its scheduled match against Payam Ertebatat, which won by forfeit. There reportedly were problems with the Rah Ahan team and the Iranian Wrestling Federation, which led to the team's withdrawl. Rah Ahan has now been moved into last place in Pool B.
Two teams won their first dual meets of the year, Isfahan in Pool A and Kargaran in Pool B. Both teams had zero team points going into the week, and now have two team points with their upset victories.
Isfahan won its first dual meet of the year with a 16-15 victory over Javanan. Both teams won four matches during the meet. The final result was determined at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. where Majid Bohloli of Isfahan stopped Hadi Mosavi of Javanan, 1-0, 4-0.
Kargaran got its first win with a 16-13 win over Mehregan. The first four weight classes were won by Mehregan, then Kargaran swept the final four matches. The final matchup went to Mohsen Rezaee of Karagan, with a 1-0, 1-0 win over Mehdi Baghbanian.
The top two teams in Pool A, Naft (Tehran) and Joybar Loleh (Mazandaran) both scored victories. Joybar Loleh defeated Army Team (Tehran), 19-11 and Naft stopped Tamin Ejtemayi (Tehran), 19-13.
There were only a few non-Iranian wrestlers in action during week nine. All three foreign athletes in the Naft vs. Tamin Ejtamayi match won their bouts. At 74 kg/163 lbs., Mourad Gaidarov of Belarus, competing for Naft, defeated Iranian star Hadi Habibi of Tamin, 1-1, 1-1, 1-0. At 84 kg/185 lbs., Taras Danko of Ukraine, wrestling for Tamin, stopped Majid Khodaee of Naft, 0-4, 1-1, 1-1. Former World champion Georgi Gogshelidze, wrestling for Tamin, swept his match at 96 kg/211.5 lbs., 1-0, 4-1.
The other international star competing during the week, Oleksander Zakharuk of Ukraine, also scored a victory. Zakharuk, wrestling for Mehregan, stopped Majid Yousefi of Kargaran, 1-0, 0-1, 1-1.
