Central Michigan*s Jason Mester (145lb., Fr., Mineral Point, Wis.) and Northern Illinois* Scott Owen (157lb., Jr., Carlsbad, N.M.) share this week's MAC Wrestler of the Week honors. Mester, the nation*s No. 11 wrestler at 145 lbs. recorded a 7-4 decision over NIU*s No. 19 Ryan Egan. Owen, meanwhile, the No. 14 grappler at 157 lbs., was 2-0 last week with a technical fall. The junior recorded a 22-7 technical fall over CMU*s Brad Anderson, then had a 22-10 major decision over Northern Iowa*s Brandon Livingood. Other Nominees For This Week*s Award: Buffalo*s Ryan Bentley (141, Jr., Ripley, N.Y.) won his only match with a 16-2 technical fall victory over a wrestler from Bucknell. Bentley has won his last eight matches and is 27-3 on the season with six technical falls and 11 total falls on the year. Kent State*s Jim Swetter (Hwt., Jr., Brunswick, Ohio) was 2-0 last week, picking up both victories via pin. Swetter, who tied a school record for falls in a singles season with 16, pinned wrestlers from West Liberty and Findlay. Ohio*s Brad Bauer (Hwt., Fr., Kent, Ohio) went 4-0 for the Bobcats last week, helping Ohio to a 3-1 mark. Bauer, who won two of his match by pins over grapplers from Cleveland State and Millersville. Both teams are currently 3-0 in the MAC. The Chippewas are coming off a 25-7 win over Northern Illinois last week, while the Bulls won a 37-11 non-conference match with Bucknell as UB wrestlers won seven of 10 matches. The CMU win extended the Chippewas' MAC win streak to 17 straight matches. *Kent State head coach Frank Romano picked up his 60th win of his coaching career last Tuesday with a 27-12 victory over West Liberty. The Golden Flashes have three wrestlers with 21 wins each -- Nick Nemeth, Nick Magistrelli and Jim Swetter -- and one with 18 victories -- Brent Thompson. KSU, which hosts Ohio on Sunday, is 3-0 at home this year. *Northern Illinois* Scott Owen (157 lbs.) picked up a pair wins last week for the Huskies, scoring 44 points in the contests. Owen completed a perfect mark in MAC matches with a 22-7 technical fall over Central Michigan*s Brad Anderson. He then improved his overall record to 24-4 with a 22-10 major decision over Northern Iowa's Brandon Livingood. *Ohio freshman Brad Bauer (Hwt.) was a perfect 4-0 last week with two pins for the Bobcats, who went 3-1 last week. Both pins came in the first period, one against a wrestler from Millersville at the Slippery Rock Duals, while his other came a day later in a non-conference match with Cleveland State.
