Ryan Lang (North Royalton, Ohio/Northwestern) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for the week of November 8-14.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.

Last weekend, Lang placed first at 141 lbs. at the Michigan State Open in his first action of the year. He was one of three Northwestern wrestlers to win titles at the event.

Lang started his season on the right note, pinning Eastern Michigan's Bill Amundsen in 3:54 in the first round. After recording a fall in his second-round match as well, Lang faced Findlay's Von Graham in the semifinal match. Lang took the match easily, recording a 20-5 technical fall.

In the finals, Lang downed All-American Andy Simmons of Michigan State 6-5 to win the title. The Northwestern sophomore was then named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler.

Lang was also named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week for his accomplishments.

As a freshman last season, Lang came within one round of earning All-American status at 141 lbs. at the NCAA Division I Championships. He finished fourth in the Big Ten Tournament and ended the year with a 28-10 overall record.

Lang is enrolled in the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern.
