USA Wrestling, through its developmental programs and the National Coaches Education Program, has set the dates for an exciting training opportunity for elite high school wrestlers this summer.      The Junior Olympic 2008 Training Camp is scheduled for July 1-July 8, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.  The camp is limited to the top place winners from the national competition schedule for Cadet and Junior wrestlers.      "With this camp, we have a great opportunity to introduce the next generation of amateur wrestlers to the training that has made America a force in international wrestling," said Mitch Hull, Director of National Teams.    Wrestlers who earned All-American status by placing in the top six from the FILA Cadet National Championships held in Evanston, Illinois are eligible to apply.  Also, competitors who wrestled to a top six finish in the 2000 National Championships in Fargo, N.D., in either the Cadet or Junior competitions, can also apply.  Applicants can have earned their top-six placement in either freestyle or Greco-Roman wrestling.  Also eligible for camp are Regional placers on a fee basis only.     The Junior Olympic 2008 Camp will offer competitors who wrestle at a high skill level a first glimpse into the training and instruction that goes into building an elite athlete.  Wrestlers will have their days filled with intense and high-level instruction from USA Wrestling's National Teams coaches, as well as Division I college coaches who will attend the camp.     "What's great about this training opportunity is that these wrestlers will be surrounded by their peers that operate at the same level; with that, they'll really have the opportunity to advance their skills," said Mike Duroe, Freestyle  Developmental Coach for USA Wrestling.      Athletes who participate in this camp will practice at the Olympic Training Center, in active sessions that will include drilling, technique and live wrestling.  Only the best USA Wrestlers from the Cadet and Junior division will be able to attend, so this camp will give wrestlers a great opportunity to train with the best wrestlers from across the country in their age division.     The highest ranking 30 athletes who apply will receive funded access through the United States Olympic Committee.  These elite athletes will only be charged a $25 administration fee.  The determination of which athletes will receive OTC housing will be made by National Developmental Coaches, and applicants will be notified by phone or mail as to their funded access status by June 8th. The goal is to provide opportunities for up to the top 100 wrestlers in the nation, through alternate housing arrangements.      "This camp is a reward to the wrestlers that have worked hard on their wrestling skills and are among the nation's best for their age division,"  said Greco-Roman Developmental Coach and past Olympian, Ike Anderson.    Wrestlers who want to be a part of this camp need to get their applications in early so that the National staff can make the determination of which athletes will stay on site at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.  Athletes that do not receive preferred status to stay on-site can still attend the camp, provided that they find housing, meals, and transportation off campus.
