The USA Wrestling Coach's Guide to Excellence, 2nd edition, has been completed and is now available to the general public.
This in-depth wrestling resource is now being used as the textbook for USA Wrestling's National Coaches Eduation Program (NCEP) bronze level of certification. It is also available to the general public for sale, for $21.95 plus $3 for shipping and handling.
The new and completely updated book is 223 pages long, and includes many new features that are designed to educate and improve wrestling coaches at all levels.
"This book was the product of a two-year effort, including numerous wrestling and sports leaders," said Ted Witulski, USA Wrestling's NCEP Manager. "It will greatly enhance our NCEP coaches education program and will provide a valuable new resource for all wrestling coaches."
Among the entirely new portions of the book are chapters on Title IX, Women's Wrestling, the History of American Wrestling, Periodization, Leadership and USA Wrestling Basics. In addition, there are at least 20 new sidebar articles that give tremendous examples of the material presented.
Witulski served as Senior Editor for the project, with input from a variety of USA Wrestling's national staff and volunteers.
Among those who served on the writing team that updated the content of the book, or provided new sections and content for the publication, were (alphabetically): Gary Abbott, Eillen Bowker, Tyler Brandt, Dave Curby, Katie Downing, Kyle Fellure, Beasey Hendrix, Randy Hinderliter, Isaac Ramaswamy, John Sachs, Ben Stehura and Danny Struck. In addition, special thanks goes to Olympic Coach magazine for a sidebar article concerning sport psychology.
All wrestling coaches who have not yet achieved their NCEP bronze level of certification are encouraged to attend a clinic in their area. For more information on the NCEP program, contact Tony Black at 719-598-8181 or via e-mail at tblack@usawrestling.org.
