A pair of 2005 World bronze medalists, Sally Roberts (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) and Katie Downing (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) will make a special appearance to meet with wrestlers and their families at the Big Horn ASICS Nationals, a major youth folkstyle wrestling competition.

In addition, 2003 World bronze medalist Jenny Wong (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids), a teammate of Roberts and Downing on the 2005 U.S. Women's World Team, will also attend the competition.

The tournament is scheduled for Sunday, November 13 at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colo.

Roberts, Downing and Wong will sign autographs and meet directly with the young athletes and their parents during the course of the day. All three athletes are U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athletes and are ranked No. 1 in the United States in their weight classes.

"Sally Roberts, Katie Downing and Jenny Wong are among the best women wrestlers in the world. We are proud to have them at the Big Horn ASICS Nationals. It fits well, because the Big Horn ASICS Nationals will be having a women's division this year for the first time," said tournament director Bill Gossett.

Roberts won her second career World bronze medal, competing at 130 pounds. She was also a bronze medalist at the 2003 World Championships of Freestyle Wrestling, held in New York City, N.Y. She is a two-time U.S. Nationals champion (2003, 2005) and a 2003 University Nationals champion. Roberts claimed a gold medal at the 2003 World Cup. She has won major international tournaments in Russia, the United States and Canada.

Downing won her 2005 bronze medal at 147.5 pounds, competing in her first World Championships for the United States on the Senior level. Downing was a 2001 World Cup champion, and has won major international events in France, Canada and the United States. She was a 1999 Junior World silver medalist. She won the 2003 U.S. Nationals, and won the World Team Trials on three occasions (2003, 2003, 2005). Downing was second at the U.S. Nationals twice (2003, 2005).

Wong was a 2003 World bronze medalist at 51 kg/112.25 lbs., and dropped to 48 kg/105.5 lbs. in 2005, where she placed seventh in the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Wong was a 2002 U.S. Nationals champion, and placed second two times and third three times at the U.S. Nationals. She has been a three-time University Nationals champion. Wong was also a 2003 World Cup silver medalist.

"I like what Bill Gossett does for kids through his events," said Downing. "I am attending because it is good for women's wrestling to get exposure. This will allow more young male and female wrestlers and their parents learn more about women's wrestling. It is also an easy way for me to give back to wrestling. At the Olympic Training Center, USA Wrestling does so much for me."

This competition is directed by the same people who have developed the popular Liberty ASICS Nationals and the Dixie ASICS Nationals, a three-event series as part of the America Crown Award program. These events are sanctioned by USA Wrestling.

There is an entry deadline of Tuesday, November 8 for all entries who wish to compete in the Big Horn ASICS Nationals. This competition is expected to feature strong competition, outstanding event presentation and impressive awards for the participants.
