Former Michigan high school standout wrestler Chase Metcalf passed away early on Thursday morning in Flint, Mich. following an automobile accident.

Visitation is set for Saturday, Sept. 10 at Allen Funeral Home in Davison, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. The funeral is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, located at 404 N. Dayton St. (on the corner of Davison Rd.) in Davison, MI.

Metcalf turned 21 years old on August 27.

He was currently serving as an assistant wrestling coach at Davison High School, one of the top high school wrestling programs in the nation.

Recently, he competed in the ASICS East Coast Beach Nationals, posting a 2-2 record.

Metcalf wrestled two years at the Univ. of Michigan. He redshirted his first year, posting a 10-6 record with three pins in open tournaments. As a redshirt freshman, he finished 6-7 with two wins coming by fall.

In high school, Metcalf was one of the greatest wrestlers in Michigan state history while attending Davison High School.

He won two Michigan state titles (2001-02) and placed third in the state tournament in 1999 and 2000.

Metcalf also excelled in national events. He won the NHSCA Senior High School National Championships in 2002. He also won a Junior Nationals title in Greco-Roman in 2002 and placed third in the freestyle Junior Nationals the same year.

In 2001, he finished fifth at the freestyle Junior National Championships.

He was awarded the 2002 Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award for the state of Michigan. is presented by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame annually to a high school senior. The award program is based equally on outstanding wrestling success, scholastic achievement and citizenship or community service.

Metcalf also won the Junior Schalles Award in 2002, given annually to the high school wrestler who notches the most pins throughout the year.

Metcalf is survived by his parents, Thomas and Lynn Metcalf, his younger brother Brent and younger sister Chloe.
