Five U.S. wrestlers claim championship titles at the 2001 Manitoba Open

The 2001 Manitoba Open, in Manitoba, Canada, featured a lot of United States winners in the men's freestyle competition.     2000 Olympian Kerry McCoy (Bethlehem, Pa./NYAC) won at 286 pounds with a technical fall over Eric Kirschner of Canada, 11-0. This is McCoy's first competition since placing fifth at the Sydney Olympic Games.        Team USA members Lee Fullhart (Iowa City, Iowa/Hawkeye WC), Joe Williams (Coralville, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) and Bill Zadick (Iowa City, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) all won their respected weight classes.     Fullhart won at 187.25 pounds with a technical fall over Mark Defresne (NYAC), 10-0. Williams won at 167.5 pounds with a technical fall as well. He defeated Wade Elliot of Canada, 11-0.  Zadick decisioned Chris Ayers (NYAC), 6-2 to win at 152 pounds.      Chad Lamer (Iowa City, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) won the competition at 213.75 pounds. He won by a technical fall over Chris Cox of Canada, 11-0.     Team USA member Chris Bono (Gilbert, Iowa/Sunkist Kids), placed third at 152 pounds. He decisioned Celso De Arda of Mexico, 10-1 to finish third.       Others placing for the United States include: Jeff Bedard (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army), Joe Calavitta (Colorado Springs, Colo./Unattached) and Ty Reynolds (Colorado Springs, Colo./Unattached). Bedard finished second at 138.75 pounds, Calavitta finished first at 138.75 pounds and Reynolds took third at 138.75 pounds. Bedard wrestles for the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program while Reynolds is a member of the U.S. Olympic Training Center Resident Athlete Program.
