The inaugural USA Wrestling Kids Team USA has been announced, recognizing the top youth wrestlers in the nation in all three styles of wrestling: freestyle, Greco-Roman and folkstyle. These honors were earned on the mat, based upon the results of the USA Wrestling national championships in each style. The top three medalists in each weight class at each USA Wrestling Kids National Championships earned a spot on the 2005 Kids national team. Recognized were the nation's best young wrestlers in the Schooboy/girl division (13 and 14 years old), the Novice division (11 and 12 years old) and the Midget division (9 and 10 years old). "USA Wrestling is excited to honor these impressive young wrestlers as members of the USA Wrestling Kids Team USA," said Rich Bender, USA Wrestling Executive Director. "They have earned this recognition based upon excellence on the mat, by winning a medal at a Kids National Championships event. We expect that these athletes will continue to improve as they move through the USA Wrestling system, and have the potential to make a future U.S. World or Olympic team. Their friends and families should be very proud of this achievement." The USA Wrestling Kids Team USA has been prominently displayed on the internet at TheMat.com (www.TheMat.com), using the Athletes Bios button on the home page and in the National Teams section. A biography of each national team member is posted, with information on their wrestling career, their club and their coaches, as well as their hobbies and interests. A photo of each of the individual national champions is also displayed on the internet.
