Ronald Hughes (Hollister, Calif.), who won a Veterans World gold medal last year, will be among the three U.S. athletes who are scheduled to compete in the 2005 Veterans World Greco-Roman Championships in Belgrade, Serbia-Montenegro, July 22-24. The Veterans World Championships are for athletes who are 35 years old and above. The competition is split into five age divisions: Division A (35-40 yrs.), Division B (41-45 yrs.), Division C (56-50 yrs.), Division D (51-55 yrs.) and Division E (56 yrs. and older). Last summer, Hughes captured a gold medal at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. in Division B in the Veterans World Championships held in Seinajoki, Finland. He won a four-athlete pool to claime the gold, and was the only U.S. athlete to win a gold medal during the competition in 2004. Two other U.S. wrestlers expected to participate this year are Jeffery Anderson (Elburn, Ill) at 85 kg/187.5 lbs. in Division A, and Stephen Contarino (Palmetto, Fla.) at 85 kg/187.5 lbs. in Division D. Both of these athletes also competed last year at the Veterans Greco-Roman World Championships, with Contarino earning a fifth place in his division.
