This is the first time an entire team has been selected for this honor. Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday. The Missouri Bulls recently competed in the 2005 Cadet Dual National Championships in Kansas City, Missouri. They took first place in the Cadet Freestyle Championship, bringing home the first team championship for any age group in Missouri USA Wrestling history. This was also the first time that the Cadet Dual National Championships have been held in Kansas City, Missouri. In previous years, the event site has been Greeley, Colorado. The Bulls placed second in the Cadet Greco-Roman Championship. Overall, the Missouri team finished the tournament with a near perfect 19-1 record. "The wrestlers and coaches did a spectacular job all week at the duals and to be in the finals in both styles here in our own state and in front of our parents and supporters made it even more special, " said Event Director Craig Ewing, also the State Chairperson for Missouri USA Wrestling. "Being national champions in freestyle was just the icing on the cake of what was an incredible week of wrestling in Kansas City." Ranked #6 going into the Cadet Freestyle Championship, the Bulls defeated the top-ranked Minnesota Bay Watchers 38-33 to win the title. The Bulls collected wins in 10 of 17 bouts, including a pin and five technical falls. Two days earlier, the #2 seeded Bulls went head-to-head with the #10 seeded Pennsylvania Looney Russian Bears in the Cadet Greco-Roman Championship. In a highly contested battle, the Bulls came marching back from a 16-point deficit early in the dual to challenge the Bears in the final bout. With the score 31-30 in favor of the Bears, the Bulls were not able to complete the comeback. The Bulls were handed their first loss of the Greco-Roman tournament and finished runner-up to the Bears. Three Bulls were named to the 2005 Cadet Freestyle National All-Dual Team: Craig Wilson at 125 lbs., Deron Winn at 189 lbs., and Dom Bradley at 215 lbs.
