Bobby Douglas (Opening Statement): We are excited to host the World Team Trials here in Ames. This is the event where we see the best wrestling the best in the U.S. Some of these guys are the best in the world right now. This should be a great event for our city, and a great event for USA Wrestling. I think the fans will see an exciting display of wrestling over the weekend. Steve Fraser (Opening Statement): We have a chance to have a real good team for the World Championships this year. Brad (Vering) has been one of our top athletes over the past few years and there are a lot of other real good wrestlers here. We have some new rules in place, so it will be interesting to see how these athletes prepare for this event. We haven't competed under these rules yet. But even though our national champions are younger this year, they have a lot of experience, and that is very promising. Kevin Jackson (Opening Statement): It's always good to come back to Ames where I had a chance myself to wrestle. This has been an interesting year for us already. We had some veterans step up and then some new faces at other weight classes. Chris (Bono) and Tolly (Thompson) have been wrestling real strong this season. They are two of our veterans. This event is always a good test for our guys. We are very deep in a lot of weight classes and it's a true test before the World Championships. Q: Who do you expect to come out of the Challenge Tournament? Brad Vering: It doesn't really matter to me. I am here to get myself prepared for the Trials, not one specific opponent. I think there are some real good guys at my weight class, and they present a challenge for me. Q: How good is it to host this event here in Ames? Bobby Douglas: The Iowa wrestling community is one that embraces the sport of wrestling. I think that this event will be very successful, and it is not only exciting for our wrestling program, but it's a great thing for the city of Ames and the state of Iowa. Q: Describe the intensity of competing in this event. Sara Fulp-Allen: I think this will be a great event. My weight class is very deep and I'll be interested to see who exactly drops down from 51 kilograms as well. I think this will be a really intense event and I can't wait until we step on the mat. Chris Bono: This should be a real intense tournament. The weight classes are very deep, and we have some athletes competing in front of their home crowd. I can't think of a better situation for me to have a chance to make the World Team here at home.
