James Ravannack (Metarie, La.) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for the week of June 7-13. Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday. Ravannack, an active USA Wrestling volunteer leader, was in inducted as an Outstanding American by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Okla., June 4.Ravannack joined other former wrestlers who became prominent citizens and are enshrined in the Hall of Outstanding Americans. His business achievements include significant contributions to the off-shore oil industry during his lifetime, showing great skills as a businessman and entrepreneur. One of the companies he co-founded, Superior Energy, is a leader in developing technologies and specialized equipment for the oil business. In 2001, he founded Compliance Technology Group, a developer of software for oil production operations, which is prominent throughout the Gulf Coast and across the world. In 1999, Ravannack co-founded El Condor Resources, which manages gold mining exploration in Guatemala. Ravannack was named 2001 Man of the Year by USA Wrestling. He served as Team Leader of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team for freestyle wrestling which competed in Athens, Greece. He also served as a team leader for other U.S. international teams, including the 2003 Senior Freestyle World Team, the 2003 Pan American Games Freestyle Team, the 2001 Senior Freestyle World Team and the 1999 Senior Freestyle World Team. He also served as a Team Leader at the 1998 Goodwill Games. He currently serves as First Vice President of USA Wrestling, and a member of USA Wrestling's Executive Committee. Ravannack previously served as Secretary of USA Wrestling. Ravannack has been the USA Wrestling state chairperson in Louisiana since 1996. He served as the Event Director for numerous USA Wrestling national and regional events, including the Southeast Junior Regional Championships on an annual basis. Ravannack founded the Gator Wrestling Club, which trains and supports talented Senior-level wrestlers in all three styles. He has built and organized a USA Wrestling Regional Olympic Training Center in Louisiana. He has been a significant contributor to "Wrestling for the Next Millennium," the joint capital campaign for wrestling. Ravannack serves as a member of the Board of Governors for the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum. Ravannack was a state wrestling champion for East Jefferson High School in Louisiana, and competed on the college level for Louisiana State University.
