The National Cadet Dual Meet Championships are set for June 23-27 at the KCI Expo Center in Kansas, City, Mo. Cadet athletes are 15 and 16 years old. This popular national dual meet event for state-level teams is moving to a new city and venue, and is expected to continue the growth it has shown in recent years. "We are eager to get the meet here," said tournament director Craig Ewing. "Our facility is outstanding. There is no problem with having 14 mats for competition. The event site is just five minutes from the airport. The teams should have a great time here. The states that have indicated they will be sending teams this year include (alphabetically): California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming. Greco-Roman competition will be held Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25. The freestyle competition will be held on Sunday, June 26 and Monday, June 27. The defending Cadet National Duals champion in Greco-Roman is Minnesota. The defending Cadet National Duals champion in freestyle is Pennsylvania. Teams will compete in pools against a number of other squads. The top teams from each pool will advance to a championship pool, with an opportunity to capture the team title. The other teams will enter a consolation bracket, with additional matches available. Every team will have a number of challenging dual meets, for a tremendous experience for the athletes involved. Traditionally, many of the athletes who compete at the Cadet National Duals also participate in the Cadet Nationals in Fargo, N.D. in July, and often become all-Americans or national champions.
