MWA honors Larry Cantor as the MWA “Beat the Streets” Man of the Year

New York City - The Metropolitan Wrestling Association (MWA) has named Larry Cantor as the MWA "Beat the Streets" Man of the Year. Cantor serves as the Public School Athletic League (PSAL) Wrestling Commissioner, which conducts high school wrestling in New York City. Cantor recently served as a leader for a trip of 23 New York City "Beat the Street" wrestlers who competed at the Western Junior Regional Championships in Las Vegas in April. The MWA honored the Simon Baruch Middle School wrestlers and the 2005 Mayor's Cup High School Champions at a banquet held at the Cottage Restaurant on June 1. Cantor presented the Simon Baruch team, which serves as a feeder"programs to New York City Public High School Interscholastic competition, with equipment donated by the Asics Corporation. MWA President Setrak Agonian spoke to the 150 parents, wrestlers, coaches and MWA Board members at the function. "The wrestlers we are honoring today are outstanding successful high school wrestlers in the New York Metropolitan area," said Agonian. "They place a high value on their skills on the mat as well the classroom, and we are proud to be honoring them." The Baruch Wrestling Club, the first of its kind in Manhattan, was a huge success with 28 wrestlers and two coaches involved in the program. Next year, five additional middle school programs are expected to join Baruch in providing wrestling skill development to young people. The MWA is a not for profit association helping to build wrestling in New York City from youth through the Olympics.
