EIWA Wrestler of the Week is Tom Tanis of Rutgers (184), who dominated ninth-ranked Shawn Scannell of Rider 10-1 in a dual meet last week. Tanis scored a reversal and piled up five near fall points in the second period, and added a takedown in the third after Scannell chose neutral. Following another win against Navy on Saturday, Tanis is now 21-4 on the season and leads the conference in major decisions, with 11. Offensive honors this week go to Ryan Bernholz of Lehigh and Maurice Worthy of Army. Bernholz (157), who has recently gotten into the habit of giving up the first takedown of the match, did it twice last weekend, but pinned both Jesse Savage of Brown and Max Odom of Harvard in the first period. Worthy demonstrated why he is ranked third in the nation at 174 by winning 14-2 over Harvard' Adam Truitt and showing Boston U's Josh Sigmon the lights in just over a minute. Team on the Rise this week is Lehigh, which followed up a strong performance at the National Duals with solid 32-10 and 21-12 wins over Brown and Harvard. The Engineers have clearly emerged from their recent slump. Navy, which has had several strong showings this season, hit some rough seas by suffering back-to-back losses to Drexel and Rutgers. In an unusual display of candor for a coach, Navy's Bruce Burnett took full responsibility for the losses. "I am very disappointed in the way the Midshipmen performed today," he said. "I take full responsibility for the way they performed. We did not put forth the effort we needed in order to be successful. I did not have the team ready. We had a few guys who wrestled well, but for the most part I am disappointed." With the upset of Penn by Cornell this past weekend, the Saturday afternoon meet between Penn and Harvard heads the dual meet activity for the coming week. In regional action Penn travels to Penn State Wednesday evening, and Cornell makes a visit to Hofstra Saturday evening.
