Colorado Springs, Colo. - USA Wrestling will host the FILA Junior World Team Trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center complex, May 26-28.    The 2005 FILA Junior World Team Trials will determine who will represent the U.S. at the Junior World Championships in Vilnius, Lithuania, July 4-8.    The FILA Junior World Team Trials will be competed in a format similar to the U.S. World Team Trials. Athletes will weigh-in on Thursday, May 26. A challenge tournament on Friday, May 27, will determine who will compete in a best-of-three Championship Series against the 2005 FILA Junior Nationals champion on Saturday, May 28.    The winner of that best-of-three series will be the U.S. representative at the Junior World Championships.    Some of the top U.S. wrestlers in the country are expected to compete in this event in both men's freestyle and Greco-Roman action.    In men's freestyle competition, expected to compete are 2005 NCAA All-Americans Coleman Scott (Waynesburg, Pa./Oklahoma State) at 60 kg/132 lbs., Eric Tannenbaum (Naperville, Ill./Michigan) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and Jake Herbert (Wexford, Pa./Northwestern) at 84 kg/185 lbs.    Many of the top high school recruits from this past year along with top college redshirt freshmen are also expected to compete, including 2004 ASICS First Team All-Americans Paul Donahoe (Davison, Mich./Nebraska) at 55 kg/121 lbs., Brent Metcalf (Davison, Mich.) and Jeff Jaggers (Northfield, Ohio/Ohio State) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and Steve Luke (Massillon, Ohio/Michigan) at 74 kg/163 lbs. Scott was also a member of the ASICS All-American Team last year.    Metcalf also is expected to compete in the Greco-Roman competition. Also expected to wrestle Greco-Roman are young college stars Tyler Safratowich (Park Rapids, Minn./Minnesota) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Michael Felling (Hutchinson, Minn./Wisconsin) at 74 kg/163 lbs., Luke Hogle (Walterville, Ore./Cornell) at 84 kg/185 lbs. and Dustin Fox (Galion, Ohio/Northwestern) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.    The U.S. Olympic Education Center is also expected to bring a host of competitors for the Greco-Roman action.    Criteria for qualifying for the FILA Junior World Team Trials are as follows:  
  • Top three place winners from the 2004 Junior Nationals who meet the age group criteria.
  • The top six place winners from the 2005 FILA Junior National tournament.
  • Any All-American from the 2005 University Nationals who meets the age group criteria.
  • Any All-American from the 2005 NCAA Division I Nationals who meets the age group criteria.
  • Any All-American from the 2005 Senior Nationals who meets the age group criteria.
  • The finalists from the 2005 NCAA DII Nationals who meets the age group criteria.
  • The finalists from the 2005 NCAA DIII Nationals who meets the age group criteria.
  • The finalists from the 2005 NAIA Nationals who meets the age group criteria.
  • The finalists from the 2005 Junior College Nationals who meets the age group criteria.
  • Two wild cards, per weight class, may be selected by the USA Wrestling Developmental Coach for the specific style.
