Jacob Fisher (Platte City, Mo./USOEC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for the week of May 10-16. Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday. Fisher placed first at the Northern Plains Regional in Waterloo, Iowa at 74 kg/163 lbs. in Greco-Roman competition. With the win, Fisher qualified for the 2005 U.S. World Team Trials set to be held in Ames, Iowa, June 18-19. Fisher is a resident in the U.S. Olympic Education Center Greco-Roman program at Northern Michigan Univ. In the first round, Fisher defeated 2005 University Nationals champion Trent Paulson of the Sunkist Kids, 3-0, 1-0. In the semifinals, Fisher downed Brandon McNab of the U.S. Army, 1-0, 3-0. McNab was a 2004 U.S. Nationals runner-up and placed fifth in the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. In the finals, Fisher won by forfeit over USOEC teammate Kevin Lozano, who had already qualified for this year's World Team Trials. In 2004, Fisher placed first at the FILA Junior Nationals and third at the University Nationals. Fisher is majoring in Health & Fitness. Click here to view previous Athletes of the Week
