A team of 23 wrestlers representing the Metropolitan Wrestling Association's "Beat the Streets" program competed well at the USA Wrestling Western Junior Regional Championships, in Las Vegas, NV, April 26-29, 2005.      Athletes from the team competed in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman, the two Olympic styles of the sport. Top high school athletes from across the nation participated in this annual major competition. There were over 650 athletes in Freestyle and over 350 athletes in Greco-Roman participating in the tournament.    The team leader for this year's team was PSAL Commissioner Larry Cantor who was joined by a number of coaches that helped with various aspects of the delegation.    Michael Stanley placed fourth in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at 275 pounds. Placing sixth in Greco-Roman were Peter Morales (98) and Jonathan Soto (105).    This major high-school age wrestling tournament featured many of the nation's best athletes and was held in conjunction with the Las Vegas/ASICS U.S. National Wrestling Championships, which is the annual national championship for Olympic-caliber athletes. In the U.S. Nationals, several members of the powerhouse team from the New York Athletic Club also participated.    The "Beat the Streets Program" is a grass roots initiative developed through USA Wrestling, the National Governing Body for amateur wrestling in the United States. The New York City "Beat the Streets Program"  was created from the successfully conducted 2003 World Championships of Freestyle Wrestling held at Madison Square Garden in New Your City.
