Three individuals repeat as champions at the Western Junior Regional Freestyle Championships

Three champions claimed a second consecutive title at the Western Junior Regional Championships. The competition was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nev., April 28.    The three repeat champions were Jordan Frishkorn of Chesapeake, Va, at 130 pounds; Mitch Mueller of Iowa City, Iowa, at 135 pounds; and Ryan Morningstar of Lisbon, Iowa, at 152 pounds.    Frishkorn defeated Elijah Hutchinson of Soldotna, Alaska, with a 4-2 decision in a repeat of last year's 125-pound final.    Mueller posted an impressive win with a technical fall over Ryan Adams of Coon Rapids, Minn., with a 10-0 decision in 3:51.    Morningstar's 6-3 decision over Scott Wallace of Darien, Ill., was his second title of the tournament. He won Thursday's Greco-Roman championships and was named the Outstanding Wrestler of that tournament.     The Western Junior Regional Freestyle championships Outstanding Wrestler was awarded to Tony Mustari of Greeley, Colo., at 119 pounds. Mustari improved on his runner-up finish last year by pinning Corey Jantzen of Shoreham, N.Y., in 1:30.    In the 98-pound final, last year's third place winner Borislav Novachkov of Sunnyvale, Calif., managed a 10-6 decision over Jesse Meis of Alamosa, Colo.    At 105 pounds, Kyle Wirkuty of Portland, Ore., took the title over David Zilverberg of Long Lake, Minn., with an 8-5 decision.    The 112-pound title was also determined by a decision, with Tyler Graff of Loveland, Colo., topping Anthony Robles of Gilbert, Ariz., by a score of 5-1.    With a 11-0 technical fall in 2:24, Mike Grey of Rockaway, N.J., took the 125-pound title over Tyler Sebolt of Centerville, Iowa.    At 140 pounds, Cesar Grajales of Brandon, Fla., claimed a decision over Lance Palmer of Columbia Station, Ohio, 6-3.    With a 6-4 decision, Sean Nemec of Garfield Heights, Ohio, took the top prize at 145 pounds over Brandon Sitch, Kelso, Wash.    At 160 pounds, last year's runner-up Rocky Cozart of Brandon, Fla., took the title over Nathan Holley of Naperville, Ill., with a 7-0 decision.    At 171 pounds, David Craig of Brandon, Fla., took the title from last year's champion David Erwin of Urbana, Ohio, in a tight 6-5 match.     The 189 pound title went to Louis Caputo of Blue Springs, Mo. Caputo grabbed a 6-2 decision Trevor Perry, Davison, Mich.    It took Daniel Erekson of Eagle, Idaho, just 0:49 to pin Dom Bradley of Blue Springs, Mo., for an impressive victory in the 215-pound title match.    In the heavyweight championship, Jake Mallonee of Platte City, Mo., topped Charlie Alexander of Eagle Point, Ore., with a 5-2 decision.
