Reader named Most Outstanding Wrestler at FILA Cadet Greco-Roman Nationals

Evanston, Ill. - Jon Reader of Michigan was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the FILA Cadet Greco-Roman National Championships on Thursday in an even competition that included winners from eight different states. Reader captured his second consecutive FILA Cadet Greco-Roman national title at 69 kg/152 lbs. after posting a 7-1, 2-0 win over Chris Frederick of Pennsylvania. In the tournament, Reader posted six victories. The only other repeat champion was Brian Owen of Washington, who won at 50 kg/110 lbs. In the finals, Owen won by injury default over Connor McDonald of Delaware, but he dominated in pool competition, defeating his other three opponents easily. The states of Ohio and Washington were the only two states with multiple champions. Winning titles from Ohio were David Taylor at 42 kg/92.5 lbs. and Ryan Nachtrab at 120 kg/220.25 lbs. Taylor downed Alex Kostenborder of Oregon, 7-0, 7-0 in the gold-medal bout. Nachtrab defeated Jordan Johnson of Illinois, 6-0, 6-0, for his title. Also winning for Washington was Brent Chriswell at 76 kg/167.5 lbs., who came out on top of a 3-1, 9-1 decision over Torrey Line of Minnesota. At 54 kg/119 lbs., multiple-time USA Wrestling age-group national champion Dak Adamson of New Mexico dominated Matt Mariacher of New York in the gold-medal match, 6-0, 6-0. Overall, Adamson won five bouts, two of them by fall. Spencer Jasper of Arizona defeated Aaron Ross of Utah, 5-3, 6-0, in the finals at 58 kg/127.75 lbs. Esai Dominguez of Iowa won a gold medal at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. by defeating Kendall Vogel of Wisconsin 4-0, 3-4, 2-1. At 85 kg/187.25 lbs., Patrick Flynn of Pennsylvania won a tight 3-0, 0-4, 4-3 bout over Scott Penny of Illinois in the finals. Flynn won the Gorrarian Trophy for the most falls in the least amount of time. Winning by an injury default in the finals was Andy Pokorny of Nebraska at 46 kg/101.25 lbs. James Touris of Ohio defaulted to Pokorny. Top three place winners in the FILA Cadet National Championships qualify those athletes for their respective state's Cadet Nationals Team.
